hey, i have been thinking about this recently ie if ds can't get into the IP schools, then what are the other alternatives? i stay at Toa Payoh. the better schools around here will be Catholic high and St Joseph. But what holds me back is their affiliation. they are affiliated to CJC, no offence here, but i would prefer that he goes to a better jc. Victoria is affiliated to VJC which is a good JC to go to but problem is, it is the east. not sure if i should enrol him into Victoria which is better if i think long term.....then again, VJC is quite far away too:(

So ... go to a \"better\" jc! You don't have to limit yourself to CJC. NJC is a good choice too! So is Anderson.

NJC cut off points is 4 & 5 points. rather hard to get in if not via DSA at P6

            HI all

my eldest ds is taking psle this year and yes, we have applied for dsa already. NUSH and NJC respectively. nush no chance liao since he didn’t even make it for the camp. waiting for njc results but i don’t have high hopes really. there is an interview portion which i think will be too tough for him…
so, being the type that likes to plan ahead, i am thinking of what other better schools are there.

njc cut off point 4 to 5 pts, is this the cut off point to get into the JC to do A levels? my time was not so low leh and i am an ex njcian !

of course, if his "O" results are good enough, i will consider better jcs but if not that good ,then the affiliation will help, right? then again, i think i am thinking too far ahead…

my son’s teacher never gives us an "estimate" t score for my child. i guess that will put too much stress on parents plus child and based on what, can the teacher come up with the estimate!?

I would think that NUSH is easier to get in than NJC

yes the 4/ 5 points refer to entry to JC .... by then most places in good / top JC are already taken up by pupils at Sec 1 via PSLE

affiliated schools are : ACS, VS, CHS, St Andrew .... not many (not incl all-girl schools)

strange that the school does not have an estimated t-score for the kids from P5 onward

during the meeting when the principal briefs the parents on what to expect for PSLE, someone asked about T-score estimate. The principal explained that there is no point in giving an estimate cause it may be v different from the actual one since the actual T-score takes into account all the p6s in whole of singapore…

hmm…i didn’t know that most places in good jcs will be taken up by pupils in the IP programme…sigh! guess the kids will have to work v hard throughout their school life if they want to get to good schools , good jcs etc. In summary, our education system is just too stressful!!!

no doubt it is not an accurate T-score, it does give an indication of where yr child stands.......
i know of parents fr various primary schools,
their kids are made known of their T-score fr P5 onwards (some sch start fr P6 SA1 onwards)
so i was rather surprised that yr child was not given the estimation.......

                        Hi Augmum

I’m not sure how accurate. During the Parent-teacher meeting this Jun, the form teacher said the intention (using 0.7 instead of 0.75) is to encourage the children to work harder if they have any desired dream school in mind.
