Just wondering⦠seeing most popular schs are balloting from >1KM and >2KM⦠does it still make sense to do PV for these schools if u are in the same category?

Hi,
I am new Kiansu parent here, so please bear with my newbie question.
My son was born in 2008 and now he is in day care, as a Kiansu parent i want to see how i can help him to secure seat in Rulang school (I think we are within 2KM of school).
My sister in law tried this school for his daughter but failed, even they turned down her volunteer application (i am not sure if she was to late for volunteer request).
Now i am thinking to apply for Parent Volunteer work, Would any kind soul guide me what should i do? What is the procedure?
I will really appreciate all helpful answers.

It would give you the advantage of going one Phase earlier. So if you really like the school but unfortunately get balloted out in Phase 2B, you will still get one more shot at it in Phase 2C..
Personally, I think being PV will allow you to get to know the school, its team and its culture much better too.. so I think it is good.. -

just tat if the parent has no chance/lost ballot due to >2KM in 2B.... go to 2C also same result (or even lesser chance) bah...
And the \"get to know the sch\" thingy applies if we enrolled successfully

Firstly welcome to KSP.. maybe after this you could drop us a line at the newbies so that we can welcome you properly.. btw, it is KSP SOP..
Wah.. kiasu indeed.. your kiddo barely 2 y.o right?
Provided the rules does not change by the time your child is due for registration - 2 years before your child is due for P1 (2013?) before 30 Jun. Go down to Rulang General Office to obtain a form for PV application. After submitting the form and fulfilling the required proposals on your contribution towards their thrust, wait for the interview. An interview will be called for all applications to discuss abt their proposals. After which you go home and wait for the good news..
Please remember to check again with the school within the next years to ensure that the requirements have not change..
If you are active here, you will also get your frequent dose of updates..

Hence, the importance to study the trend closely but unfortunately the risk of going out of whack is still there.. so another option would be to move closer (best is within 1km) proximity once you are successful in getting in for PV..

@RRMummy, thank you for your quick reply.
I am really glad that i came to right place (Kiasu forum :D).
Yah indeed i am very kiasu as after looking at my niece case, for them they shift their home to tiong bahru so now they will be hunting a different school.
Why i am trying to be kiasu because when we were looking for day care for my son a lot of day care were already full although my wife try sourcing for day care from some time. So i thought it is my time to be kiansu .
Do i introduce myself here or is there any other place to introduce myself? -

Ya... it's like buying additional insurance...

no wonder the property prices around popular sch keep rising... and finding such properties in these mature estates usually takes a few years or tonnes of $$ to fulfill... kudos to those who plan so many years ahead
I think most young newly weds dun even think of having babies till much later... let alone think abt schs? -

Closer to the PV registration start date of your child, you can make an appointment with the principal to find out more about the school and what areas you can do PV in. From there, you might be able to find out your chances of being selected for PV or aim for another school with higher chances.
