hi again
does it matter if DD1 is a SGcit already? Or should I wait till she gets her citizenship before I go and see the schools of choice principals regarding placement? I believe DD1 should have no problem getting approved for citizenship but I was told by ICA that the process would take between 2 or 3 months.
thanks again. -
jadecloud:
if your decision has been to convert to citizenship, then do it asap and also concurrent to your school hunting. let the principals know that your girl is going through the procedure of getting her citizenship (by descent ?)hi again

hi! thanks for your advice.
yes it will be by descent. as i understand, she can hold dual citizenship until she turns of majority age to decide which to maintain.verykiasu2010:

jadecloud,
so glad to hear that you are returning from USA. my hubby will posted to USA next Jan on 3 years assignment, I am in dilemma whether to follow him.
I have 2 kids, 1st girl is P3 and 2nd girl is K2, both born in year end. They will attend US public elementary school.
I am in despair to find out the difference between USA and Spore education system.
Do you have any information on this? -

hi mystuff_corner, it'll be an exciting opportunity to live in the USA! Which part of the States you are going to? Because different parts (states, and even cities) can be quite different in their education system/structure.jadecloud,

P3 (Jan 2010- Dec 2010) == Grade 4 (Sept 2010 - May 2011)
So your eldest child will be Grade 4 starting Jan next year..
For the K2 one, extrapolating, that she starts Grade 1 next Jan.
Hope that helps. -

Hi, I may be confused, but how can your 6 year old who starts Grade 1 in this new year be P2 in Jan 2011?Hi! All KSers
It's so great to meet all of you here in this forum. While researching on relocating back to SG and the how-to's, I am really glad to stumble upon you all.
I am a Singaporean mom and my daughter is now 6 years old. She's a december baby. USA academic year is from Aug-May, while here it is Jan-Dec. In USA, she will be in 1st Grade in the new academic year 2010-2011, whereas here, I realised she will be in P2 in 2011.
We plan on being back for a few years from 2011, due to my mom's ill health. Can anyone enlighten me on what I should do to effect a smooth transition for her? Should I let her finish off 1st Grade there, then transfer over here? Should I arrange transfer while there or have to wait till we relocate to SG?
My daughter is in a gifted program in USA. Does that count for anything here? I have so many questions to ask the wealth of knowledge in all of you, but I shall stop here for now.
Any and all input will be appreciated. Greatly!
Thank you all and it's a pleasure meeting all of you.
Your child should be in P1 next Jan!
Mind if I ask what gifted program is that, and which state are you in?
Not sure if US education is the same country-wide, but the Maths level in Singapore should be one grade higher.
