Want my son to go DLS, but stay 1-2kim away, SV is within 1km, which one stands a better chance?
It is very unlikely that you would have any chance at all with DLS, as balloting will be likely (almost certain) to be for within 1km.
But since you are within 1km to SV, you would have a chance to ballot. The odds would be very small. My guess would be between 2-4 person for 1 place. Thus, it would be wise to have a backup plan under phase 2C supplement if you are registering at PV.
Good Luck ! -
thks to u all ya i really hope and also i am stay less than 1km away from this sch hope that helps secure a seat for my son if the demand is not too high for this cat. i shall prep the copies in advance and bring the originals as well. gd luck as well to those parents in similar situations maybe we may bump into each other on 2 aug …

May I ask why most of the parents prefer DLS? I am just wondering…

Hi all,
I think DLS is terribly over-rated. Do you know that in terms of academic excellence, the schools in CCK area rank as follows:
Rank School Index
1 South View 2.90
2 Unity 2.46
3 Concord 1.80
4 Yew Tee 1.79
5 Choa Chu Kang 1.70
6 De La Salle 1.40
7 Teck Whye 0.50
(Not Ranked) Kranji
Source for the above rankings: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-primary-schools-ranked-academic-excellence
You can see that DLS is in rank-6, close to the bottom. Not worth a second look, I would say.
Just because all parents 'talk' about DLS, please do not get misinformed. Why depend on 'hearsay' when you can get the 'facts' right? Honestly, DLS is not worth undergoing a ballot.
From the above table, you can see that Concord Primary (with 1% vote) and Unity Primary (with 4% vote) are really under-rated. They deserve more attention from aspiring parents in CCK area.
Thank you all. -
thanks for your feedback tiger.

Please be careful. You think DLS is overrated, thats ok, it's your opinion. But saying that it's not worth a second look?? In my opinion, I would say it IS worth a second look and it IS worth undergoing a ballot, but only because I'm looking for different things than only academic excellence. I'm not asking that you not express your opinion, but just be careful how you do it. Thanks!lengrick:

Good luck to all the PVs balloting at SV today at 11am :xedfingers:
Wonder what's the breakdown. I only know 42 PVs, 34 vacancies, less than 30 within 1km. -

Sorry Lengrick, I did not reply to your post. My choice in terms of priority:
1. Catholic school. School vision and mission statement.
2. Cocurricular activities - wide range of activities
3. Academic. Take a look at this (% passes over the years): http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/school/de-la-salle-school
4. Last but not the least, I found the teachers there polite and supportive. Perhaps I'm biased
(Note. I'm not a teacher in the school).
