All About Preparing For Primary One

My DS's name is easy to write, we planned ahead fearing that he would be punished to write his name 100 times by some teacher some day. :oops:

Daughter’s Chinese name is relatively easy to write. I taught her to recognize her name in nursery. At K1, I held her hand to teach her to write in those big sq exercise books.


With 5 months more to go, I’m reminding myself to take it easy for K2.
Don’t want to stress and make her ‘ANTI-primary school’. But she really drove me nuts last night…could be partially due to the hot weather yesterday.

There are a lot more (preps) than meets the eye..

I recall once i had an SOS request to coach a K2
boy to read in September, some time after school
hols. I realized upon assessment that he doesn't
even know his ABCs! :shock:

I can never over-emphasize on early & timely preparations,
with or without attending pre-school education. While few of
the children may be able to make it with intensive coaching,
good/positive learning attitude and fab home support, others
will have signs of burn-out cos apparently reading isn't the only
thing they're rushing to learn by December.. the poor things..

You think too much....where got write name 100 times? If it really happens can write once and then x 100??

I used to tell DH to name our son 'Yi'....then very fast. only 1 stroke.

That's why prevention is better than cure.

Hquek, punishment of writing 100 times used to be the old school
method of punishment. Not that i kena before, of course.. :preen:

FYI, my dd just gena wrote 100 times of English Name due to forgotten to write in one of the math worksheet. I think the punishment is good better than keep remaining them this is very important especially during the exam.

These 5 months are not just for learning how to write Chinese name…whole lot more than that.


I plan to give her a good foundation for K2 - Maths/English/Chinese.
Have to stretch her a little more esp in Term 4.
