      Disclaimer:

I am not a natural cynic. You will see from my other posts that I believe in the higher order of things and that we can all make a difference. I also did my time as a PV, and got my boy into the school of choice because of it. I am a FTWD.

      BUT…

I am completely cynical about PV, as it is currently set up.

Really, what purpose does it serve?

Contribution to areas that the school needs help? I should be allowed to hire a couple of Bangladeshi workers to maintain the gardens, or send my 2 IT staff to the computer lab, than doing it myself. The school would get far more value from that and I won’t have to spend time away from the office. Sham no. 1

Bonding between parent and school? What is the retention rate of PVs who go on to PSGs after the registration period? Better yet, what % of PVs will continue as PSGs IF their child does NOT get accepted into the school? What of the few schools with successful PSGs who do not have a PV programme? Sham 2.

So you can know the school better? Which of you would do a PV in a school you had not already researched on? Which of you would be swayed from applying in 2B for NYPS, NHPS, HPPS if you had already qualified, by what you observed as a PV? Sham no.3

Consider economic impact. To whose benefit is it that a Partner in an major accounting firm (a friend of mine) spends 80hrs over 2 years holding a Stop sign? What economic value is derived from that when she could have hired someone to do it at a fraction of the cost of her bookable time? Faux egalitarinism.

Consider implementation. Who gets chosen? SAHM? Professionals? PRs? Citizens? >2km? <1km? Who knows? Clear as mud. The admin staff managing PV at the school were so harassed they all preferred to be something else. How much peace of mind of parents is squandered in the selection process, and subsequently in 2B?

I actually enjoyed my PV at FMPS, and I think I did make a difference to the team I ended up coaching. However, I believe there was a far more effective way to have achieved those aims. As such, I think we need far more convincing that PV is somehow nett beneficial to the community in any way.

        the good overwhelms the bad

somebody perpetually speeds on the highway does not mean we ban all cars on the highway

I'd like to see an analysis of the nett gain to society, the economy and emotional well being of parents from the PV scheme, then i'll be convinced that 'the good overwhelms the bad'

you can do that to convince us otherwise

If you set something up which burns goodwill, requires time and investment, then you ought to justify its existence. One should not be required to prove that it should NOT exist. I.e., it is the EXISTENCE of PV that needs to be justified, not its NON-EXISTENCE. That is standing logic on its head. But I suspect its because one really struggles to support the notion that PV indeed has 'good that overwhelms the bad'.

It shows that you just want to push your agenda despite you misinterpret my meaning of good overwhelms the bad

If you had followed the discussion, the context of my statement is meant to say that majority of PV are good, honest, sincere PV people not out to pervert the system by cheating the way through. That is what i meant by the good overwhelms the bad

and i gave the analogy of speedster on highway and banning of all cars

the debate of how PV contributes and what good it is is another matter ; and i have no wish to debate and discuss with you. thank you

I have refrained from making any insinuations about your agenda, and I respectfully ask you do the same.

You will see from the series of enclosed quotes, of which I am the originator, that the topic very clearly deals with PV as a concept and not individuals as PVs. The simple way not to engage a debate is not to reply.
