All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi,
I’m new here. If my child is born in 2007, is it too early to start to apply for PV this year? -

You can start enquiring from the schools when they actually start taking in (coz got application period) but you usually start PV 2 years before the registration period ie when your kid is 4 years old. Just hit 40hrs and you can be eligible for Phase 2B. As some of the KSPs here have said, you treat PV-ing like looking for a job...send in applications to all the schools you are targeting coz not all schools want PVs or want you as their PV (they can be choosy...)Hi,

Some duties other than morning reading, traffic wardens, librarians etc could include doing interesting exhibitions (Catholic High) and carrying guzhengs for the students at competitions (Gongshang). -
some schools require 80 hours for PV
40 hours is the MOE minimum -
LKVM:
no need to bang head
And even doing 80 hrs of PV still need to do balloting :stupid:verykiasu2010:

that is life -
I think the no. of PV is going to drop sharply in those super-hot schools going forward, esp. those which require balloting even if you live <1km. It simply doesn’t make sense to waste 40-80 hrs, and buy a house next to the school, but still ended up being ballot out :x

buy a house next to it can qualify for four chances as a citizen
first two chances as PV if need to ballot even within 1 km
second two chances under Phase 2C even if have to ballot under 1 km
can you be 4 time unlucky ?
then sell the house to the next parents to try their luck and meanwhile make some profit ..... those houses always in demand one -
Yeah, maybe that's the consolation prize at the end, given the rising property prices. Even though we can't get into the school of choice and wasted all the hours doing PV, at least we made a killing on property investment

....provided you yourself did not overpay for it... :stupid: -
Just wondering, will there come a day when those staying 1-2km/2km away have no chance to get into some schools ? Firstly, not all parents are available to do PV, furthermore not all applications to be PV are accepted. Isn’t this very sad ?

well but seeing the trend nowadays, plus the fact that parents have access to better info, i think schools will continue to see an upsurge in PV applications. Probably on the supply side, some of those schools that accept pv application indiscriminately will cut down.
