Yeah, maybe that's the consolation prize at the end, given the rising property prices. Even though we can't get into the school of choice and wasted all the hours doing PV, at least we made a killing on property investment 😉

Just wondering, will there come a day when those staying 1-2km/2km away have no chance to get into some schools ? Firstly, not all parents are available to do PV, furthermore not all applications to be PV are accepted. Isn’t this very sad ?

I think the no. of PV is going to drop sharply in those super-hot schools going forward, esp. those which require balloting even if you live <1km. It simply doesn't make sense to waste 40-80 hrs, and buy a house next to the school, but still ended up being ballot out :x

well but seeing the trend nowadays, plus the fact that parents have access to better info, i think schools will continue to see an upsurge in PV applications. Probably on the supply side, some of those schools that accept pv application indiscriminately will cut down.

              Hi Minnie/hquek,

Schools which accept PVs will definitely see an upsurge in PV applications…they will also be more fussy since they can afford to be.

A stupid question - which is relatively \"easier\" to get into? PV or grassroots?

I think it depends. Some schools are notoriously picky about PVs and not only is it hard to get in, it's hard to complete the hours. Some schools don't even have a PV scheme.

Grassroots is not without its issues as well, with some forumers saying that after volunteering x number of months/years, they were still unable to become EMs to get the coveted PA letter.

So, it depends on the school you're targeting. Read through both PV and Community Leader threads and you should get a good idea what you should do in your situation. And it's always best to have a backup plan if you're targeting the superhot schools. These days, even living within 1km and registering in P2B is no guarantee.

I’ve read through Community Leaders forum. It’s not easy to go through grassroots mode either. For PV, not sure if the school will reject you if you apply early…

U mean to say easier by the grassroot way :?[/quote]and the grass is always greener on the other side

I think PV is more certain the GRL (in terms of qualifying. Balloting is a separate issue) - how to become EM ?
