      I asked my boy abt the practical test, so different from what I thought it would be. But he enjoyed it.

      I would try to list the activities here so that future P3 parents get to know what to expect when their child's turn comes.

      Contents include 4 activities.

      1) An incomplete diagram of a fish. The pupil to draw 2 parts (scales and a short tail) as required in the test qn. I asked my boy whether the qn says to label the parts drawn, he said not. Not too sure if he's right.

      2) Given 5 types of fruits to test which ones float, which ones sink. First guess the outcomes, then do actual testing, then record findings.

      3) Given a peanut, record the texture.

      4) Given some objects, to sort them into types for recycling.

      The above are what my boy told me. Pls feel free to add on if he has missed out some details or he's not accurate in his details 😉

        Quite interesting indeed! Only Q2) seems like a practical test. Thanks for sharing.

          Hello I've been away for a long time. Here's what I gathered from what happened during the P4practical.


          There were 4 stations.
          1) They gave 2 fruits, eg. lemon and apple. They cut them into half and ask questions about them. Eg. what are the differences between these 2 fruits.

          2) A beaker and a cup of water provided. Instructed to fill the beaker with 50ml of water. They gave them 4 marbles and 4 styrofoam balls. They asked them to put the 4 marbles into the beaker. And student supposed to record how heavy the marbles were.
          Qs related to styrofoam - if you take the styrofoam and place into the beaker, compare and conclude whether the marbles or styrofoam balls are heavier (without doing the experiment on the styrofoam balls)

          3) 4 things wrapped in aluminium foil. Students do not know what's inside. There were 12 paper clips on a paper plate. Test each item one by one. They are provided with a chart and they are supposed to shade the number of paper clips attracted to each item. Thereafter that, they will ask them to conclude which item is the strongest 'magnet'. And they will also ask the student which items are not magnets.

          4) A beaker, a piece of cloth, a short toothpick, some iron nails, bar magnet and wires. Experiment to be done within 3 steps. They will ask the student which items are magnetic.

              A little relief that the Science test is over…now to move on and prepare for the BIG one. Hopefully can start revision early so as to have more time to do some past year exam papers…looks like I’m in the right forum. HeHeHe.

                Hi! My girl is not so fluent in Mandarin. Is the Chinese class in this school tougher compared to others? I enrolled her in Berries to at least supplement her in this area. Thanks.

                  Honestly there are not many children who speak Mandarin in Pei Hwa. My son's CL teacher bans the class from speaking English during her lessons but son tells me she does use Eng to explain certain terms/phrases to them. Son was surprised his CL teacher's English is so good. HaHaHa.

                      I find the teachers ok and some of them are really committed to help the students improve in their subjects. My son's Eng teacher this year (P4) is one of them.
                      As for the school, yes, it does focus on academic excellence. Discipline is very strict too...something I like bcos kids now need to have strict teachers esp if both parents are working and maids cannot control them. However, some teachers tend to be like tigresses.
