Compare RGS vs NYGH

I can think of the following reasons that NYGH has a higher COP than RGS last year (and may happen again this year and subsequent years):

a) NYGH's PSLE cut-off point includes HCL whereas RGS' does not. If RGS' cut-off point includes HCL too, they are likely to have the same cut-off point last year (i.e. 263).
b) NYGH's school fees is cheaper than RGS' - NYGH: $200 per month for first 2 years and $250 for next 2 years; RGS: $300 per month for 4 years. If the school fees are the same, likely more people would choose RGS as I think it has a better branding
c) Less vacancies for non-affiliated students in NYGH means cut-off point for NYGH will be driven up. However, also note that non-Chinese top girls will choose RGS not NYGH, so a larger pool of applicants for RGS will drive her cut-off point up. Probably both have their own advantage here.

I think points a) & b) above help NYGH to achieve a higher cut-off point.

You don't need to do HCL in primary school to apply to NYGH. But you are expected to take HCL in secondary school.

There are students who don't do HCL in RGS, but VERY few.

Where can we find that stated by MOE?[/quote]You can apply to any school using your PSLE results. For some schools, like NY, you get bonus points if you do HCL. But it doesn't mean that if you don't do HCL you won't be admitted.

And I spoke directly to the NYGH principal last year who told me you don't need to have done HCL to get into NYGH. I also know of students who didn't do HCL in primary school who were offered DSA to NYGH.

So it is true that as long as PSLE aggregate is high, can also apply to SAP schools. On top of that to use the HCL as bonus points, must be top 30% in cohort....

Students do not need HCL in primary school to apply to NYGH, they do not get any bonus points when applying to NYGH, that's all.

The COP for NYGH (and all the SAP schools) definitely includes the bonus points for HCL.

To encourage more students to do well for HMT (i.e. HCL, Higher Malay and Higher Tamil), I feel that bonus points for HMT should be included in the PSLE score and all students who do HMT should benefit from it (and not just students who did HCL and applied to SAP schools).
