how much did you spent in all? I went to prime travel website, 1 pax around $4k?! that's very expensive right? :?

I think Prime Travel does have very good program and choices.

If you prefer free-and-easy, Hokkaido is perfect. You can spend much less, just have to choose what you want on your priority.

My family of 4 just went to Hokkaido and spent USD4100 for a full 11-day trip (except for flight tickets which we used redeeption). We stayed in business class hotel rather than 5-star. But we reward ourselves with lots of good food. Kobe beef on almost every meal that friends said we have taken the country's quota for export hahaha.

Anyone has tried booking a domestic flight from narita to hokkaido for holidays?

There after,how do u arrange and book a land tour from there?

Can someone please share with me your experience , thanks.

Hi Joy

Getting domestic flight is easy. ANA is part of the Star Alliance with SIA. If you have frequent flyer points for redeemption, you can used that on the ANA! The best part is that, there is no airport tax for the domestic flights

Instead of doing land tour, why not go on your own? We just returned from Hokkaido this June. You may check out my travel blog for reference.

Wow 1place1dream, that's a good deal that you got!
But i guess it did not include the ryokan that's why it is a budget deal.
Hahaha.... you like beef, eh. U ate wagyu beef also, i suppose?
For me, i love sahimi and raw cold stuff.
I can eat just sashimi without any wasabi or seasoning for a meal, as long as it is super fresh.
For that (onsen, ryokan, sashimi) i do not mind paying a little extra and travel with prime.

We would love to do free and easy but the only drawback is we are going end of the year and think its not really safe to drive even we have gps.Cos not used to driving in snow area.

Kobe refers to cuts of wagyu beef. Yap, that was what we had. The price there was about the same as what you would get for a regular beef over here. So it was natural choice for Kobe at every possible meal.

Yes, the sashimi was so fresh that they were good on their own. i am sure you will have a good time especially at the seafood markets.

The ones we went at Masyu and Lake Toya were ryokan. But we did not opt for their meal. My daughter needed cooked meat (pork beef poultry). Son prefers meat too.

I have not tried, but perhaps you can find it on internet?

Or you might want to use the JR trains. There is an extensive network and there is season passes that save you $.

We went 2 ladies at Furano who used the bus network for their trip. They looked to enjoy themselves too. There is lots of information on the internet.

Since you are going to Winter, my route may not be quite relevant. Different parts of Hokkaido is for different season. My short cut to research is by looking up the route that tour agents offer for the season

Although i eat beef (usually minute beef), i am not a beef person, so have not paid attention to the types of cut.
When my DS and DH went for their wagyu beef, my DD and I went to eat sashimi. I ate so much of the uni that i so longed for until i almost puked!

Kobe beef refers to cuts of beef from the black Tajima-ushi breed of Wagyu cattle, raised according to strict tradition in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.


Kobe beef in Japan is a registered trademark of the Kobe beef distribution promotion conference. It must fulfill all the following conditions:

- Tajima cattle born in Hyōgo Prefecture
- Farm feeding in Hyōgo Prefecture
- Bullock or castrated cow, to purify the beef
- Processed at slaughterhouses in Kobe, Nishinomiya, Sanda, Kakogawa and Himeji in Hyōgo Prefecture.
- Marbling ratio, called BMS, of level 6 and above.
- Meat Quality Score of 4 or 5
- Gross weight of beef from one animal is 470 kg or less.
