Vicky, my husband shoves his credit card to me for all my shopping, but he never buys me a gift. That makes sense to you?

mummyjoyce, I know some men are like that. I once had a pen-pal who would send me gifts all the way from London, including jewellery, and I had to write him to stop. It is their love language, I suppose. I guess we just have to accept the way people are. But I can't help hoping that one day he (meaning my DH) would surprise me. When the day comes, I'll remember post a message here.. 😉

hahaha! It just hit me, why didn’t I choose to marry my pen-pal instead? Well, I just didn’t love my pen-pal the way I love my DH…

            concern2:

Foreverj, over the years, I have 'showered' him with little gifts here and there, non-expensive ones since we are both budget conscious. He values them, and I know he feels deeply when I do when he hugs me

but he never returns that gesture... 😞

He's ever mentioned to me that he was afraid I wouldn't like what he buys, but I told him it doesn't matter, but he would still end up bringing me to a shop or departmental store, which really, to me, defeats the purpose. I'd usually turn and go without anything. Really such a low-risk taker, is he, huh? :x
hmm, maybe your dh just needs a knock on the head  (just kidding)it seems actually what u need is very simple. just a surprise present chosen by him, doesn't even need to be expensive. he must be quite \"dazed\" not to understand that. if its my dh, this kind of \"no need spend a bomb also can make wife happy\" kind of thing, he sure do one.

dun mind me, is your dh an engineer?

              sleepy:

I'm SAHM so hubby paid for all my expenses. Perhaps that's why he doesn't feel there's a need to buy extra gifts since I'm holding supplementary cards to all his credit cards & can buy anything I fancy.
me SAHM for a while and now income not substantial. so no longer has the ability to buy little gifts for him now and then. i dun use supp card from him since i stil hold on to my own credit cards - my last bit of pride n sign of independence for myself  but every mth, if accumulate too much credit, wil pass the bill to him 😉

              sleepy:

But the point is we ladies like surprises. Gifts need not be expensive
absolutely! but come to think of it, since we had dd n she's become more matured these days, my priviledge has been diverted to become hers 😛

                    This is interesting.

Over the past 2 mths, I have had 2 friends confiding in me about how much of a blockhead their DHs are. One of them just had her birthday and there was no expression from her husband, not even a hug or a happy bday from him. The other one, just had their anniversary, and oso nothing from the DH. Both their husbands are devoted to their kids, wonderful father and filial son. Brings home the bacon to support the family but fail totally in the department of showing their wives affection.
The 2 of them are not even looking for presents, after so many years, they are willing to settle for any expression of affection, even if it comes in the form of a nagging.

I have kinda the same problem as mummyjoyce. DH keeps buying stuff for me that I don’t need nor like nor want or not my style. Then when I don’t use them, he gets a little upset. My problem is also the opposite from my friends’. DH is pretty affectionate, I get flowers every valentines and presents and dinners every bday or anniversay and even at times for no reason, he will give me something and say, for being such a wonderful wife. But but but, he is pretty much absent in my daily life. After many many quarrels and battles, and yah I read that book on language of love, I guess both of us kind of reached a middle ground. I expected a lot less and he did a little bit more.

No foreverj, he's not an engineer or techy

Is this solely a female concern or do males ever feel the same way hoping their wife would surprise them with gifts but they never do?

haha, very rare la unless its sensitive new age guy? most times, the hubbies r the ones who dun like to spend money, even when the wives are spending their own money. guess just need to find middle-ground cos already married mah, wat to do? my dh says no need to buy anything for him now since i'm using his money anyway to buy things for him
