Could it be due to their \"drive-thru-pick-up\" system? Currently, each driver has to display a big laminated card with their child's name and class on it (provided by the school) as he/she approaches the carpark. Upon reaching the carpark entrance, one of the teachers will call out the child's name and class and try to get the child ready, so that when the car makes the turn from inside the carpark to exit, *hopefully* the child will be ready to jump right in, and the driver can drive off. I think theoretically, this system sounds good and relieve parents/drivers from having to park and walk to pick up their children. In reality, however, some classes may end late, or the drivers come early, and so the pick up is delayed. And of course, it may then held up cars from behind, and thus the congestion?can any parents enlighten why despite the new facilities the traffic congestion is worse than ever before outside NYK ?
it seems these days many parents and drivers simply don't care that they are causing obstruction to other residents who can't move in / out as these parents choke the junction at King's / Queen's ?
But I do agree that parents and drivers should be considerate to other residents and users of the road... -
Thanks, mommyNg for your feeddback.
Yes, I didn't call back yesterday, so guess that's the end of the vacancy...
I agree that the attraction of NYK is indeed its 100% Chinese in N1 and N2. That was the reason why I put DS on waitlist (but I was half a year late compared to other parents with kids of the same age). Having said that, I believe English is important too, as it would always be the working language in Singapore. Thus at the end, I would like my kids to be strong in both languages. Speaking a language at home does not necessarily mean that the child would be able to do well in that language, as some friends have shared.
Anyway, the biggest drawback for me is the afternoon session... might be different if it is the morning session.
Happy to know that your DD is enjoying her school. That is an important step before any learning can take place. :celebrate: -

certainly there should be more efficient way to do things. for a drive-though, they ought to have multi-lane and multi-bay, instead of queueing up at the road junction

if it is raining I would agree that it is a good system to avoid the kids getting drenched
and if the drivers and parents are early, they should go park at the multi-storey car park and walk instead of jamming up the road for residents at Victoria Park Road and King's Road
it is getting too frustrating when it happens a few times every day -

there is no affiliation between NYK and NYPS, even though they have the same alumni organisation. hence no advantage for any NYK graduatesHi

It is MOE policy - no kindy has any affiliation to any primary school
Primary admission is as per MOE policy and procedures -
