My elder boy came back saying he is doing CIP hours for NJC DSA interview on 28 Aug 2010.

My boy went through DSA two years ago.
To what I observed, most GEPers would have at least one or two offer/s.
But for those from the mainstream, the percentage that would get an offer is much lower.
It doesn't mean that the mainstreamers are any less intelligent. To be honest, many of them actually did better than the GEPers in PSLE.
Unless the mainstreamer got a DSA offer that is their first choice, otherwise they may face a dilemma to whether they should take up the offer of their 2nd choice school.
I remembered, some of the boys in my son's school only got an offer for their 2nd choice school and they accepted the offer. When the PSLE results were out, they found that, with their results, they can actually got into their first choice without any problem. A few of them were actually way above the cut off score.
Whereby, some of them, didn't even try DSA, they were able to get into their choice school with their PSLE score that was just met the COP. So in the end they were better of.
So don't think of the option that you can appeal for it afterwards. The chance is very slim. I know somone with a score 15 points above the COP were not successful in their appeal.
Hi Bumblebee135,
I think you are very right in your analysis. Mainstreamers should think twice before applying for DSA.
One senior teacher told me that DSA is mainly helpful only for the GEP students since many of them tend to score less in PSLE, often below the COP of top schools. She said that the Mainstreamers will be better off by applying with their PSLE marks rather than thru DSA.
I do not know how correct she is. I request others to give their views on the above observation.
Thanks. -

Not trying to sound conceited, but just to share that my son scored way above the COP of RI and so did most of his geper friends last year. I was at his class when the results slip were given and being so very kaypoh, I asked around, only1 boy scored less than the COP.
So, that senior teacher is so very wrong to say that. -

http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=219460#219460Hi all,
There is a lot of talk in this forum for the last few days about various students getting confirmed DSA offers.
But all the news are only about confirmed offers coming in from girls schools like RGS and NYGS.
Why is there no news about boys getting confirmed offers from HCI/ RI/ ACS(I) etc? Are the boys schools normally late in announcing confirmed offers? Can anyone throw some light, please?
Thank you all. -

mathsparks is right. I don't have any child in GEP, but I remember reading somewhere the average PSLE scores for all GEPpers are about 264 or 265.

On one hand, it’s easier to make decision when PSLE results are known; on the other hand, IP schs seems to take in abt 50 % from DSA. So the vacancies aft DSA are much less ; especially for schs with affliation eg NYGH, 420 places, abt 210 left for PSLE; dunno how much is reserved for NYPS (250 can go in already). May be that’s why NYGH COP is high.
That’s why we only advised DD to try 1 or 2 sch; if 1st choice didn’t give confirmed offer, may just leave to PSLE. We also didn’t spend much time on DSA + just so happens the sch we applied no need any selection tests/ camp - so min effort. Of course, selection test/camp/ interview - also good exposure/ experience for the kids. DSA is a safety net just in case DD falls sick or somehow didn’t perform well. -
My son actually applied for 4 schools that year and he got offer from all 4.
For NUSH, they will actually asked those who got an offer from them but knew that they will definitely not select NUSH to mail back a form to them to decline their offer within a few days so that they can confirm another students ontheir waiting list. -
DD just came home and told me sadly that one of her classmates was NOT accepted in her DSA application to RGS. The e-mail came yesterday.
Advised DD to encourage her classmate to try to do well for the upcoming PSLE and get in through the central S1 posting exercise (if she is still keen on going to RGS). -
