You have a chance in 2B for CHS if you stay less than 1 km. Of course, most likely to balloting based on the this year and past years' statistics. In fact, I attended the CHS's PV briefing last year. The principal told us to forget about PV if you stay more than 1km. On top of that, there is a new condo next to CHS. When the project is ready, the competition will hot up. Do take note.

BTW, parents can apply using the Sales&Purchase agreement of the new property, as long as they move in within two years of the child's entry into P1. Other than the Clover, there is also Natura Loft within one km of CHS. So, competition is really hot.

I really hope the situation in the 3 bishan schools will ease next year when my turn comes. Hopefully GYPS will become a draw factor by being spanking new! <cross>

To be honest, doubt the situation will ease -- since the birth rate has u-turned up in 2005!!

I guess so too. 2005 was the year when the maternity benefits were enhanced. But if some were to move to GYPS, and if KCPPS were to relocate to another premise, it may change the whole landscape. Who knows may end up having KCPPS as the one with least number of children registering. :lol:

Actually I am curious about GY situation too. Though I live in Bishan, school in AMK is closer to me than GY. Those folks staying near GY's Bishan premises have the option to go KCPPS and schools at Tao Pa Yoah. I wonder why people avoid the school just around the block qnd rather travel further for another school. Any parents with kids at GY can share with us?

That's the reason why parents who's genuine staying around the school have problem sending their kids in. while parent who are staying far away from the schools are taking the advantage of clans & religions status to get in. Especially for parents who are not fortunate to move around the island even they know the chance of getting in is very slim. Really pity for them as they are the one who are being stucked without much choices left.

Well said. My hubby and I bought the flat at Bishan many years ago not knowing the situation. At least we did not move to Bishan just to get in CHS. I am sure there are parents moving here just for that school only to find out there is a very slim chance to get in. Do hope that the situation will change in the future.

We bought a place in Bishan, hoping to get into CHS but gave up when we saw the number of places left.

Well, not only are the new property development allowing parents to try for places in CHS. Apparently, there are many foreigners who went 1 step ahead by joining grass root so that they can stay ahead.

I don't think it's correct to say pple who live far away are taking advantage of the clans and religion status to get in at Phase 2B (coz P2B already needs balloting for <1km). They can only take advantage of their alumni status (Phase 2A) if they live far away. And they have their parents to thank for. If pple genuinely only want to go to a nearby school, then just apply for Guangyang...

Long Long ago, during the children parents time, it is also not easy to get into the school at Primary Phase, it is even more difficult to get into the school at Secondary Phase.

So the children parents and even grandparents have already put in their effort during those days that puts themselves / their children into the school.

You can only blame the parents’ parent for not sending the parents to the school in Primary Phase or blame the parent for not doing well to get into the school in secondary Phase.

Most, if not all, of this alumni has contributed in a way or another to the school during so many years after they graduated from the school.

I think our parents' parents are prob too busy thinking/finding ways to put FOOD on the table for the entire family rather than finding a good school for the kids. To the honest, during our parents' time, i think as long as they could get into a school, its considered an achievement!

Its also an achievement that our grandparents managed to escape being gunned in WW2. Thank your grandparents - otherwise, no parents will be born and no us and subsequently no our kids!

Its Maslow Hierarchy of needs - now that our 'basic' needs have been fulfilled - aka - food is on the table, thats why we have the energy and time to hunt for a 'perceived better school' for our kids.

I won't put it as 'taking advantage' - for either alumnus, or clans/religion. It's not wrong to want your child in a school that propagates the values you believe in. The funny ones will be those who are against a certain religion, who try to get into a school that was set up precisely to continue in the tradition.

Why would it be wrong for pp to use their alumni standing to get into a school also? I do envy the idea of having various generations go to the same school...it's a kind of heritage to be passed down from generation to generation. To break that link is, in my point, not a good idea also.

I think it's very important for parents to understand what their chances are. I have heard of those who moved around, only to be disappointed ultimately. They should understand the risk if for instance they buy a property near a desired school. Gahmen only guarantee us a place in a school - they don't guarantee which school.

Totally agree with you! There are many people who dun like catholics but want to enter catholic school... weird but true... and then they complain that the school instill catholic values in their kids... Duh? Then the school must take extra care not to \"offend\" these people by preaching, otherwise kenna complain...
