buds:
It is also good to label everything they own.
This mummy here doing all the labelling and get tired after almost every few days with missing items, especially pencils. Given him 3, came back with 1. Replace for him liao, same thing happen the next few days
Oh ya hor, my boy is careful of his pocket money,so far so good, cos came home have to report to me how he spent them

My DD recently lost an eraser. I had it labelled so I'm hoping it'll come back. She was really nonchalant about it when I questioned her. I got all the \"dunno\" and almost blew my top. This is because I deliberately bought a good eraser for her (Faber Castell some more) that wasn't cheap (when compared to lousy ones).
Hey, schellen... i so get you there, babe. The cheapo ones didn't do the
job of what an eraser was supposed to do. And on top of not doing
the job well, they had thousands of eraser-dust scattered all over!
The \"i dunno\" thing... sometimes these kiddies... they just can give to
friend ya know. I know for one mine did.. After a chat with her on that,
i have not heard of anymore giving on her part. Or taking from other
friends for that matter - just because the other kids say they give (too!)
:roll:schellen:
The deciphering part usually ends up in me erasing the work all nice andI had noticed that her lousy erasers don't do a good job of totally erasing her mistakes and I end up trying to decipher what she actually wrote when checking her homework.
Luckily, she hasn't lost library books (for reading period) or pocket money. *touch wood*
good for her. Sore eyes seeing patchy pencil shadings over her work...
Sigh..
As for library book, know what?
When i was given a reminder (letter) from the school library about an
unreturned book, i was appalled to find that she didn't have it cos she
lent it to her friend during silent reading...
And the friend.......??? :x
Said he LOST it!
I refused to pay for the book.
Wrote in to form teacher to look into it.
Told the teacher the issue at hand. Boy
admitted. Said he checked but couldn't
find the book anywhere. I said he should
pay for it. Not that i could not afford or wish
to prolong the issue but more a matter of
principles and to make my kiddie kan-cheong
a bit...   ....that somehow this
was also her doing as well and to nicely learn from it.
Learn that... borrowed items must be returned.
You lend to friend, friend must return (after silent
reading or before end of the day, at the most...)
Learn that...
SHE borrowed it, so she's responsible to take care
of it and return it on time. I told her she can help to
pick up the rubbish for the whole month in school or
help out at the library or anythingthey ask of her to
do (in lieu of) if she doesn't have money to pay.
Wuahhahahaaa!   Mean, i know...
But the lesson... was priceless, definitely.
Her expression... priceless too!
Btw, the book was found (by God, i dunno how and
where)... and returned.
The incident shared above didn't happen again. Ever!
Mebbe not ever.... too soon to say. Hmmm... mebbe
for now lah. Ahakz!

For every pencil lost, put 10 cents
in special petty cash box. Make it
ala donation box! Ahahaa! -

Hi buds,
Think will start off with your idea or the one u mentioned earlier
(So, if we can be the
hard-hearted-it's-for-your-own-good-kinda folks
can ask them to purchase the stationery replacements
themselves, from their pocket-money-savings...)
Let's wait n see how my boy going to handle.... -
Good luck, Luvkid!
Update hor!
Cheerios.

Heyya schellen, forgot to share with you...
pencils and erasers (lost) still not too bad..
my kiddie first week, forgot art file.. with
new (untouched) drawing block inside &
new ruler.. Big item, okay! Still can forget
to bring home. So now, rule of thumb, similar
to checking for stuff before exiting taxi or bus,
i get her to practise checking all her stuff has
been packed in the bags before leaving her
table or class.
I even role play...
>5 pencils... Check!
>2 erasers... Check!
>1 ruler... Check!
>1 notepad... Check!
>1 scissors... Check!
>1 glue-stick... Check!
Zip up pencil case...
P2 : Ok, done mummy.
Me : Oit! Forgot to check under the desk..
Me : You have just lost another art file based on this role play..
*Note : Things left under table usually do not come back.
*Note : Be it labelled or not. One classroom usually utilised by 2 sessions.
*Note : If lost, consider it - bye-be-liao... gone case. -
buds, Iβll try the role-play suggestion later with my DD.
Luckily, she goes to a single session school so things may still be around. -

It's a mental checklist we want these kiddos to have...
And no giving friends anything!! -
I label all the important stationary too, except wooden pencil and small erasers. Thankfully my girl takes care of her things and keep track, and I dont take \"I dunno\" for answer.
I always tell her if \"you dunno\" then it is not important and you dont need it, so no replacement.
If she loses something, I will not replace it immediately, but will allow her to take something old that is being used at home for school instead.
I only replace her lost stationary with new ones at the start of new term, but worn out/ used up ones get replaced immediately.
Hope this helps

Hmm, I shall try that reasoning with my DD if she loses something again (touchwood!). I didn't bother to replace the lost eraser and I told her why I got her that \"special\" eraser too. Since she couldn't find it or didn't bother to. I just told her to use an old one (that wasn't as effective).I always tell her if \"you dunno\" then it is not important and you dont need it, so no replacement.

I think she takes a bit more care nowadays.
