but to b realistic, i hope she can become a doctor - pediatrician to be exact. cos i hope she wil have her own children next time n stil be able to hold a job wif flexible hours (since doctor can decide on her own consultation hours) n can be her own childrens' paed - save money on medical bills 😎

But if a patient is admitted at wierd hours, the paediatrician still need to come to the hospital to check on the child. So I am not so sure about the flexible hours. Just like gynae. If someone wants to give birth in the middle of the night, they need to rush to the hospital.

Actually , everyone should do what they love. Really love. Then its not work - its happiness. If my children can find that profession that they are passionate about , then they are very lucky. Bcos you can do it day in and out , and grow with it .

The ultimate job is that we would do even if we are not paid for it. We need to keep searching till we find it....

idealistic ?? ya thats me
Aye aye to that. I don't think it should be considered idealistic but essential. Which is why DH and I believe that the childhood years are essentially for self-discovery and creativity. This is the time to develop hobbies, dabble in different stuff, have your favourite collections, daydream etc. From this, the child will have an idea of his area of interests, as well as area of strengths (not always the same). This self-knowledge is important as it can both guide the path to fulfillment and excellence, and also prevent burnout.

I remember the following conversation with my son about 3 yrs ago:

Me: better be an architect when you are grown-up
DS: what do you do now?
            Me: why bother about me?
DS: If architect is so good, then why you don't become an architect by yourself?
            :rotflmao:

Have a nephew who is sitting for PSLE this year.

He loves the lift and was playing with a relative's lift (cluster house). He said he don't mind being a lift attendant :stupid:

The same boy is not into studies. Was having a conversation with him that he better work hard as PSLE year if not what can he be when he grows up???? Bus/ taxi driver. After thinking for a good 1 second, he told us that taxi driver sounds good. :!: :stupid:

Was thinking to myself that since he loves to play computer games so much hopefully at least he end up as some games designer.

We have found mentors for ds if he is taking mbbs or llb. Ds is our only child and we want him to be happy on top of everything. For more than a decade, ds hopes to be a bus/train driver. He has 3 game wheels, the newest is a Logitech Ferrari but his favourite is still Creative, to practice his driving skills. After so many years of practices on the PC and PS2, he has decided to be a train driver because less accidents and traffic rules. Don’t know whether his β€˜dreams’ will come true. When he was in primary school, he asked whether drivers must learn music. I replied, yes they need a back up plan. Yes, music teacher is a back up plan.

I hope she can spend time with me when I get old. Something not too time committed or need frequent traveling. Teacher or lecturer would be ideal. Principal, university dean or chancellor even better.

This is only what I hope. But I don't think it will happen. She now started to listen more to her friends than us. I think her study and career path are more lightly depending on her circle of friends choose.
