Now I am thinking if I should inform her beforehand that I am sending her back once i get my new maid. I am definitely not allowing her to transfer as I feel she is doing a disservice to whoever that employs her.
NOOOO. Although MOM says otherwise, but I think it not wise to inform the maid in advance. Your niece may be alone with her? Think of her safety! And the safety of your dog!

At most give her a couple hours notice so she can call home to make arrangements for someone to pick her up; and make sure she's escorted at all times so she can't get up to any hanky panky.

Remember those news stories about a maid who poured bleach in the employer's shampoo? or wawt that contact lense solution? Better to be safe than sorry.

:? I have no idea. I am giving up on them actually, but my husband disagrees and wld like to continue having a maid. He said that it'll ease the household chores a lot and I get to spend more time coaching my children in their studies. Right now, I just dun want to have any. I am angry over what happen; it just doesn't pay - how I treat them, and how I ended up now.

Niway, if husband decides to have a maid, I still have to stick with Indonesian. Sorry, I do not have any friends who employ Myanmar maids. Perhaps you can read this forum and see any feedback. Not sure if there are any Myanmar or Filipino maids who are Muslim right? A friend of mine switch to employing Filipino maid after similar incident like mine. So far she said her maid is good. Well, all this is luck.

        All the best to you.

If you have familial support, you can consider to go without maid for a short time and then evaluate if that's the way to go. In a sense, having a maid helps when you don't have to get the 101 household things done and can just concentrate on your kids - education and all.

But of course when a maid acts up, then you may find more energy sucked into managing that one individual instead.

Good luck with whatever choice you make!

Feel free to come here and vent. Plenty of mums in the same boats who have been there, and seen that.

Sometimes our maids does very 'interesting' things (I wanted to say silly, but then, not very politically correct), and it's safer and better to vent and :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: here.

I find that I also learn a lot from these sharing sessions. At least I am more culturally-aware. :celebrate:

That's what i did to my helper too when she dun want to work. I told her I'll send her back to where she came from. Anyway budget airtickets are not costly nowadays. She was hoping for a transfer which I felt was chosing employers. Now they really like to pick & choose who they want to work for rather than the other way.

                    Dear all,

Anybody employs a maid specifically to look after the elderly before? Especially an elderly with medical conditions, not necessarily invalid but need help to move around a little, go toilet, bath, brush teeth, take medication or do injections etc.

So far how do you choose such a maid? My agent told me to get from Indo. (not Phil), since the hygene standard not as good so maid won't mind doing cleaning for elderly etc. What do you think?

Also do we need to send them for training? How to draw the line because maid is not a nurse right? To what extend can we expect them to care for our elderly properly?

I am thinking of getting a maid for this purpose but not very confident I can get a good one who is willing to look after elderly. Most seems to prefer children.

                    Any advice appreciated!

                      hi desertwind,

I have heard of pp around me who did that. I think it’s difficult to say if Indo/Fil is the better choice - it’s so person dependent. I have this impression that if initiative and action is needed from the maid, better to get Filipino. Just state down their duties, I see from various postings that nowadays maids like to choose their employers also.

But be aware of what they may be up to. My mum’s best friend hires a maid for her senile father. I heard that one of the maid was carrying on an affair with the gas delivery man (probably in the same house even); another would bully the old man (strange marks - probably pinching).

Desertwind, I know personally of a maid who was hired to care for an invalid elderly. You have to be very careful with them because that maid, R, climbed all over the employer’s head because no one was home to see what she was up to. She was rude, unhygienic, abusive… She had numerous ‘boyfriends’ and had enough money to buy quite a bit of jewellery. Where she got the money from we can all guess. R took liberties because she knew the elderly person couldn’t complain about her.
