2010 P1 Registration Exercise for 2011 In-Take

I cannot trace the post that Ralf mentioned about "Donations". If Ralf really mentioned about this, as a alumni, I will be very disappointed with you. The school does not force upon donation on anyone. Even if the school puts a knife (which they didn’t) at your neck, you can still refused to donate.
Yes, it takes a lot of effort to even get into the school (at Primary or at Secondary). There are many ways. You can follow the P1 Registration and work you way there. You can get your child into the school at P4 as GEP. You get your child do well in PSLE and get there at Sec 1. You can also transfer at any level if your child’s result is really outstanding. The doors are always open.
This transfer at any level thingy is the touchy one, but do note that even if you donate 1m and your child’s result in the other Primary School is fail all the way, I seriously doubt you child will get into the school.
Ok, now talk about after getting in the school. All think getting into is the "end"? No, its only the beginning. If your kid cannot cope, like any other school, the school will advise that your child be transfer to a more suitable school. It happens in CHS and happens in other school too because the poor kid just cannot catch up. There are some who refuse to go, so the next exit is after PSLE. Some (who did "not too bad" in class) even without the school advise, the kid and parents just cannot take the stress and transfer themselves out of the school.
As for the distance, as an alumni, if you are confident in what the school has given to you, the effort to ensure your kid gets the same is worth the while. -

Hi im the father who's blur and confused with the p1 reg system. Thanks for all the great info fellow kiasu parents have provided me with. Jus a few more qn. I have 2 boys. The elder one goes to p1 in 2012. I was a cat high old boy in 1982 p1. The cat high i knew was super interested in money or DONATIONS and not the least keen on the students progress, discipline etc etc. Which kind of explained cat high's primary and secondary school results freefall in the next 20 years. Thats y im hesitant to send my boy there. However from what i gather if i try for taonan(house<1km) i only belong to phase 2c.. i tot i was 2b?? and those outside 1km belong to what 2d?? is 2c's chance high? how do i reg for 2a cat high and try for 2c tao nan? last qn, if barring dist, and both phase 2a, which do u guys/gals prefer? i havent done too much for my boys because of my biz travels and i hope that i can at least give them a good school to start with. Thanks plenty.. :? :?:

Thanks.
So the first sentence in the first para of my post is irrelevant.
But the remaining is still relevant.
The "you" refers to Ralf not limlim. -

No issues.. I guess it quite obvious anywayThanks.

I just quote for easy reference only.. ^.^ I'm not from any of those schools anyway.. hmm.. I guess my Primary School cease to exist already.. -
Hi all,
I m just being curious: My friend told me that if balloting is required during the school registration, and it happened that there is a pair of twins, balloting will be cancelled? Is it true? Will MOE accept all of those who have registered? -

Don't quite understand your question. :scratchhead:
Why should balloting be cancelled when there is a pair of twins? :scratchhead: -
Sorry if my question is not clear.. I m also puzzled when my friend told me that no balloting will be required if there is a pair of twins who are registered for P1, which means the school will take in all the students.
She explained that as they are twins, no one would be able to predict that during the balloting exercise, both of their names will be drawn. In case if only 1 of the twins' names are drawn, and then the other didn't, this might cause the twins to \"spilt\". I m uncertain so I m asking.qms:

My son's school had balloting last year. There were two pairs of twins. In the end, one pair of twins got balloted in.
So, not true that there will be no balloting if there are twins.
The situation is this. If a school has 60 vacancies, and one of the twins get balloted in at the 30th place, the 31st place goes to the other twin. Hence, there will be one place less for other parents.
However, if the school has 60 vacancies, and one of the twins was picked at the 60th place, the school needs to create another vacancy for the twin, even though the school only has 60 places initially. -

ok, never been through this, but my take is that during balloting, if the last place drawn is the name of twins, both will get in - as with all those whose names were drawn earlier. There won't be a re-draw.
For multiple births, I understand from MOE site that parents can choose to list all the names on one ballot slip. If get, all are in the school (even if it means bursting the vacancy available). If don't get, all are out. Alternatively, parents can choose to list the names of their twins/triplets SEPARATELY; in this case, only the name drawn will be in the school - too bad for the other twin whose name wasn't drawn.
For the above case listed, there may not be balloting if the number exceed by 1 or 2 and there are twins involved. Certainly if demand exceed supply by 10/20, I'm sure balloting will have to be done, even if all are sets of twins. -
Hi hquek,
Thanks for clarifying. I m also wondering how can there be no balloting if the total no of people who registered exceed the no.of vacncies by 100? I guess my friend got the information wrongly. Now I got a better idea!
Thanks!
