2010 P1 Registration Exercise for 2011 In-Take
-
Let’s face it… the MOE have more than enough vacancies to cater for All P1-going children. It is not as if the children doesn’t have a school to attend, or doesn’t have another school within 1km… which could be a stronger reason to appeal.
If exceeded by 1 or 2, it maybe still reasonable to appeal… but 16?? Does the school have the resources to cater to so many children? If they have, they would have opened up the no. of vacancies in the first place instead or expanding it after P2C.
Adding additional children more than what the school originally planned may have the effect of stressing the schools’s resources, and at the expense of other children the number of which the school had initially planned to take in.
Also, the MOE would have planning the total vacancy to meet the total no. of P1-going children for that year. If one school takes in more than the expected number, it implies that another school will take in less than the expected number. It will be resources wasted for the un-filled schools.
Popular schools will always have insufficient vacancies to meet the demand. There has to be a system to allocate these limited resources as fairly as possible, and balloting is 1 of them.
btw, my kid didn’t go to the 1st choice school. that school needs to ballot for <1km. I choose another school that is nearer instead for better chance. It’s a matter of handling expectations. if you can take risk, by all means go for it. if not, just settle for alternatives with better chances of success… You can’t change the fact that popular resources will always be in great demand and limited supply…

well, then where do we draw the line? today is 1, 2. tomorrow is 16, then 18. Isn't it strange that in aging estates near popular schools where one don't see many babies (or in fact one don't see many pp of child bearing age even), suddenly there is a huge upsurge of kids who are registering within 1km?why parents staying within 1 km, dont consider requesting/appealing to school tmw not to ballot and accept all students provided registration no, exceed not more than 16 students
so each class probably to have 2 additional chairs.
children or the kids are being deprived of a place despite staying nearby. sigh ...
I think they do have to put their foot down somewhere. Parents go in knowing full well the risks they face (if they don't, then too bad).
Good luck to all balloting today -
:xedfingers: :xedfingers: GOOD LUCK TO ALL BALLOTING TODAY
May all of us be contented and happy with the schools our kids get into. Even if it were not the 1st choice, I am sure we kiasuparents will give the best to our kids through other means and make them No. 1 wherever they are. -
May be in future P1 Reg, the system can cater to let candidate apply for a basket of schools within 1KM.

Maybe the kids will have to take a placement task for the more popular schools? To determine who gets in!!
I HOPE WE DONT GO DOWN THAT ROUTE THOUGH - cos that would mean the kids's education will start like way much earlier liao! -

Hi Tankee,
If we failed again in 2C-Sup, do we have to wait till Phase 3 and fight with everyone else for first-come-first-serve basis?
Is there anything we could do before Phase-3 flood gate open?
Thanks. -

From MOE's website
46.What if I am still not able to obtain a place for my child at the end of registration at Phase 2C Supplementary?
There are two alternatives, you can request MOE to post your child to a school which still has vacancies after Phase 2C Supplementary or you can register your child at a school which still has vacancies at Phase 3. Registration at Phase 3 will be done on a first-come-first-served basis.
