My son goes to Pri 1 only in 2014! But I'm just trying to gather more info now so I can be better prepared. One of my friends was recently stuck without a favourable school for her duaghter cos she didn't start early enough.Hi Lynettewoo,
No, SJIJ does not have a PV programme for parents whose kids are not enrolled. Their PV programme is strictly for parents with kids already enrolled.
A letter from the principal of the kindergarten and knowing two teachers there would not help at all as the P1 registration process is run strictly by rules set down by MOE, and of which the principal has no leeway. If you are unable to register there and put your son on the waiting list, these might help as after Phase 3, the school has the discretion to admit any child should spaces become available.
If at least one parent and the child are baptised Catholics, that would qualify for registration within Phase 2B. You would need to bring both baptism certs to the school during registration, to show proof that you are Catholic.
If one of the parent studied in any Catholic school (CHIJ, Marymount, St. Patricks...), it holds absolutely no advantage during registration. Unless the school in question is SJIJ (or its predecessor St Michaels) which would then entitle you to register under Phase 2A.
Hope this answers your questions. When will you be registering?
My son is not baptised, but I am a baptised Catholic - would this still qualify under Phase 2B? We live about 4km away, so the 2 km rule is out of the question. If I were to be eligible for Phase 2B, what are the chances that my son can get a place?
Appreciate your response! -

no you cant.Hi
I'm new parent...but just out of curiousity..
So if u are aiming for 1 particular school, say under phase 2B...then if failed..cannot go back to register under earlier phase right (ie alumni or within that 1km thingy?)
once registration for a phase is closed, it is closed. you can't register under any phase that had closed. -

Hi all!
After reading 63 pages, I think I better join shhk earlier. Any shhk members who r willing to help? Tks a million! -
My girl is born in 2009, still 6 more years before going to P1… I’m hoping to register her to NCPS as we’ll be shifting to SK in couple of years time… A very KS mummy, I hope to get into SHHK so that I could register her for Phase 2B in future… Thus, I’m sincerely appealing for assistance to get 2 referrals in order to join SHHK… Pls help as none of my families r from SHHK although both of us r Hokkien… Deeply appreciate it

If you live outside 2km, you must be prepared for balloting, if you even get the chance to ballot. Take a look at the statistics over the last few years for SJIJ here: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/novena
However, given the trend, I believe that when it gets to 2013 (the year you register), those who live outside 2km might not even get a chance to ballot in Phase 2B. Competition gets stiffer every year and there are a lot of new high-rise condos coming up around SJIJ.
The good news is that you have plenty of time to consider and strategise. Are you adamant about SJIJ? If you are, consider moving to within 1km of the school. If not, you have plenty of time to consider other options near where you live, where your parents live etc. This site contains a wealth of information to help you decide so you've really come to the correct place. Good luck! -
ohh…so must decide carefully which school to aim for! stressful man.
So to apply under methodist, does the kid need to be baptised? Or mother member and baptised only suffice? -
Hi,
Can I know if there is anyone who is a member of World Red Swastika Society? Can u recommend me in if u are? Thanks! -
berrie:
Yes, I believe the child and a parent must be baptised and practising Methodists. Unlike Catholic schools where you bring along the baptism certs, I believe the Methodist schools work on a system where you register in Phase 2B with a letter provided by the church you attend. So I believe the expectation is that you need to be a regular church-goer to get the coveted letter.ohh...so must decide carefully which school to aim for! stressful man.
