Yup true true. This is what i mean by the other components are also important other than exam pieces and scales.

Agreed that for other instuments other than piano, pte teachers are not able to train aural as some of them might not have piano background and they might be doing home visits so there may not be a piano at the student's home. It can only be done when practising with accompanist.

Music awareness and history of music helps a lot in gr 8 aural (last section) which shouldn't be missed out during earlier grades too.
I find this lacking bc I have a violin-playing ds. He just did his gr 8. Quite alot to absorb in a short period. But who would send a child just for aural lessons, right? Quite unlikely. Unless maybe that child also takes piano besides violin for instance (or whatever other instrument besides piano).

But if my child is doing fairly well outside nafa, and is not that young and has done g8, I don't see not to continue with existing instructor. That's why I also questioned the need to go to nafa just to do gr 7 as was the original question.
Erm, if she is able to do gr 7 then y go to nafa? She only have one more grade to complete.

          Hi All,

I am very happy to have so many respond abt my Q. My DD p6 now, next year will be secondary student.

She have been with a piano teacher since she was 6, but never obtain a good grade (the best is G3 - merit) her grade 2,4,&5 pass, G6 fail (i know the result today) I am thinking to find another teacher, but do not know how..

I feel sad, that she has wasting her time & i as mother wasting my $..

no worries. But the important thing is - does she want to go on for now? I keep asking my daughter that.

          Or next year then decide?
Hi Phankao,

Yes, she like music, she would like to go Nafa, but do know they will take her at 13 year old & can I request her to do G7 instead od repeat G6?

I really do not think that i will able to find her a good teacher as I am a foreigner and know not many people around..

Maybe before u decide, you might want to find out why she fail her gr 6. If it is lack of practise then maybe she shouldn’t skip to gr 7 as she will need more practise as compared to gr 6.

Her mark for 3 songs 20,20,18 , aural & scale mark was low.. For G6 she might not pratise as hard as G5, but for G5 she also obtain just pass 110

hmmm, sounds like she needs more preparation. The marking scheme for gr 6-8 is different from gr 1-5, the requirements are definately higher.

Why not let her try again in Feb/Mar period to regain some confidence and get more exposure before trying the next grade?

Try music schools near your home? Ask about teacher's profile, talk to other parents wih kids learning from that teacher. Should be easier to decide thereforth
