Thanks for the info, noiximi. I didn’t realise this is still a 2-session school. And why doesn’t the principal get the bus company to pick up after CCAs? The bus company St Margaret’s Primary uses does, so others should be able to as well. Guess it’s all down to the $$$ :!:

My boy will be in P1 next year.

Any mummies here know what to expect during the orientation day?
When we should buy the uniform and text books?

          HI jessnom,

did you registered your boy already? :?
Hi Smurf, yes, registered at phase 2A2 and got in. Thank God, balloting at NYPS would have given me a heart attack.

Hi 4ngelin4, I have no idea about what's going on during orientation. They'll probably have a communication session, give out book list, and a chance for the kids to explore the school a little??

            Hi!

My son just got into SJIJ. HE will be in P1 next year. Can any parent tell me how it’s like in SJIJ? What’s the niche area? How’s the teachers?

Hi I attended their orientation 2 yrs ago. Basically, a brief talk abt school etc, fill in some forms and make some payments for the worksheets etc. followed by buying of textbks, uniforms, arrange for school bus. Textbks etc all packed in a box already, buying of uniform a bit chaotic as the boys need to try them on. Also can sign up for one of the 3 types of "CCA" available for P1s. A good chance for the boys to see the school.

                  Hi noixlml,

5.45am is a very early time to be picked up!! Can i have an estimate of what time does your ds wakes up? Trying to prepare myself cos i may be in your situation nex year altough not in same school.

Also, does that mean he sleeps very early each nite? Im wondering, if you are a FTWM, how do you manage to find the time to coach ds in stardees...

*sigh* i'm getting abit worried abt ds P1 liao!
@ Vicki: Son sleeps at 9pm latest. He gets up at about 5.25am. I think boys generally get up and change faster than girls. So 20 mins sufficient time for him :). I'm a SAHM but I have 3 kids with me and No 4 on the way with no maid. My boy is pretty independent and I have instilled the \"come home, bathe, eat, rest for while, do homework than relax\" habit in him and so far, he does it like clockwork. I usually check with him if there are notes and homework and only coach him when he encounters difficulties and when it is near exams.

It is my 2nd girl that I am worried about. She is the tortoise and very stubborn

@ Jacsplace: That has been brought up a couple of times. To be honest, it boils down to the administration of the school. Not going to elaborate much, if you know what I mean.

My son is in P3 and he loves the school. Generally the school is alright, slightly above average. I used to be a PV and of course in every school there are situations that are less than acceptable but if you are not one to make a big deal out of it, it honestly isn't so bad.

I mean of course if you put him in a elite school, you expect a certain standard. But in SJIJ, no doubt they don't really excel academically nor in their CCAs, but the boys and the teachers do put in the effort and that counts. I feel a sense of camaraderie from the boys and of course the catholic foundation is there. So far, the teachers are all pretty committed and nowadays with the technology, we can communicate with the teachers though emails, twitter etc where you can find out what the boys are doing daily or at least weekly through their class website which is a good thing as you can monitor how your son is faring in class. Hope this little info helps on the insight you are looking for in SJIJ.

Soccer, badminton and chess but I suspect the fees may be slightly higher than what we would pay if it is part of their CCA programme offered from P3 onwards.
