It ranges. From $25/hr to $55/hr. I know of a very popular enrichment teacher who specialised in helping weak/very weak children (one to one)and her charges is $45/hr for lower primary. Some parents say she is really effective to motivate kids and know the syllabus well.

                      Hello Everyone

I met a private tutor for my p5 girl who offered an intensive 1 to 1 coaching for 3 months (math & science total 48hrs). The rate quoted was $180 per hour. Upon completion of this 3 months intensive coaching she will join the group at $80 per hr. Is this the normal going rate for private tuition?

FYI my girl is an average girl but fared badly this year in CA1 & SA1.

Appreciate your comments and welcome any recommendation for tutors/enrichment classes.

                      Thanks.

I know of a prestigious pri sch math teacher who charges $80 per hour for a class. Even the well-known Fabian Ng charges $75 per hour. And these are considered up-market rates alr.

I think it's important that a good tutor gets paid his due. Top pple in every industry earns good money. Tuition is a specialised job. Pple who are serious abt it are very professional in their approach. Personally, I used to charge $40 an hour even though I have trained kids to inproved from 30th in school to 3rd in school in less than 2 months. i have also trianed foreign students to be 1st in school for science. I still have many kids who are performing very well under me and by now I realised I was charging too low so I've upped my fees. But no complaints from parents. Anyway, I'm not charging something unreasonable though my clientele are from super rich families. However, I totally agree that there are tutors out there who are total rubbish yet they claim they are good just because they have a good degree or were formally teaching in top schools. I have never taught in a top school but my students who are from Nanyang, Cat High, RGPS, Henry Park, Chongfu, MarisStella, CHIJ, Canberra, etc, know that my teaching is better than their teachers.

There is an award winning ex-teacher who is charging $100/hr for one-to-one home-based tuition at primary level. Is this considered as the market rate for top range tutors?

Just curious only. There is no way I can afford this kind of money .
