Thanks for the info, noiximi. I didn't realise this is still a 2-session school. And why doesn't the principal get the bus company to pick up after CCAs? The bus company St Margaret's Primary uses does, so others should be able to as well. Guess it's all down to the $$$ :!:

@ Jacsplace: That has been brought up a couple of times. To be honest, it boils down to the administration of the school. Not going to elaborate much, if you know what I mean.

Hi! My son just got into SJIJ. HE will be in P1 next year. Can any parent tell me how it's like in SJIJ? What's the niche area? How's the teachers?

My son is in P3 and he loves the school. Generally the school is alright, slightly above average. I used to be a PV and of course in every school there are situations that are less than acceptable but if you are not one to make a big deal out of it, it honestly isn't so bad.

I mean of course if you put him in a elite school, you expect a certain standard. But in SJIJ, no doubt they don't really excel academically nor in their CCAs, but the boys and the teachers do put in the effort and that counts. I feel a sense of camaraderie from the boys and of course the catholic foundation is there. So far, the teachers are all pretty committed and nowadays with the technology, we can communicate with the teachers though emails, twitter etc where you can find out what the boys are doing daily or at least weekly through their class website which is a good thing as you can monitor how your son is faring in class. Hope this little info helps on the insight you are looking for in SJIJ.

Hi I attended their orientation 2 yrs ago. Basically, a brief talk abt school etc, fill in some forms and make some payments for the worksheets etc. followed by buying of textbks, uniforms, arrange for school bus. Textbks etc all packed in a box already, buying of uniform a bit chaotic as the boys need to try them on. Also can sign up for one of the 3 types of \"CCA\" available for P1s. A good chance for the boys to see the school.

          What are the 3 CCAs?Gecko

Soccer, badminton and chess but I suspect the fees may be slightly higher than what we would pay if it is part of their CCA programme offered from P3 onwards.

            Thx breadandmuffins,

Still a long way off for me (my DS enters P1 only in 2012) but I thought I would find out first.

I never knew that St Mike's was good in footy. Even \"ages ago\". Unless it was the 60s? :?

Perhaps you were referring to the sec school.

If my recollection serves me well, we had a half decent team in the 80s. Had fights with RI after the Ortega Cup matches ..

                      Hi Parents,

Any parent who had registered their kid to P1 in ACS junior next year and wanted to change to SJI.

Kindly PM and to see whether we can work something out with MOE to do a exchange of school.

My Son had allocated a place in SJI through balloting.

it’s been announced on the MOE website that SJIJ is slated for upgrading. from jan 2012 to june 2013, lessons will be conducted at the old victoria school site at geylang bahru. Not looking forward to the long drive and traffic!! What do u guys think?
