hey all,
I’m due to register next year in 2011 for my daughter borned in 2005.
Like most of the parents out here, i’m doing research on the schools.
A bit of info here for me:
1) we stayed in Lor Ah soo, Hougang (within 1 km of PLMGS)
2) We have 2 choice of caregiver - MIL who stay in Geylang / Aljunied (near to GMPS) or my mum who stay in Hougang ave 9
3) Hubby is old boy of GMPS which i’m also considering (near to MIL)
Actually my first choice is PLMGS in Hougang. The thing is if we put my girl in PLMGS, i will have another stress for my boy who is born in 2008.
Alot of friends & family have encouraged me to try PLMGS for my gal & Maris Stella (MS) for my boy since MS is not far away from our house (slighlyly less than 2 km away).
But we know we will have almost 99% chance to get into GMPS due to hubby’s old boy status.
Should i try our luck at PLMGS or stick to GMPS? I heard from my sister who’s a pri sch teacher saying that GMPS standards has dropped. She has a friend teaching there who wanted to transfer out due to the dropping standard.
I need advice from fellow parents here. Thanks… -
At End of Phase 2C Supplementary
School / Vacancy / Number Registered
Canossa Convent Primary School 57 36
Eunos Primary School 76 14
Haig Girls’ School 17 24
MacPherson Primary School 112 9 -
We wanted to register Haig Girl but realised we are 2km away and decided to aim Canossa Convent cos we really cannot take the ballot stress again.
Thank God that all the kids registered at phase 2C supp got in. For parents who registered Haig Girl in phase 2C supp. Do consider Canossa Convent. I read the school website, the school has fewer classes, quite a good number of teachers. Alot of activities for the gers and i heard they have good character building programme.
The only con is the school is quite out of the way and pretty run down but it is going for upgrading program in Jan 2012.
I hope to see more parents discussing abt the school in thread abt Canossa Convent Pri. -

My fren's gal has been at Canossa Convent since 2009. She also got in via P2CS after failing to get into Kong Hwa. No complaints so far.
IMHO, I still think a convent education is best for gals, esp if you compare it against the schools that still have vacancies at Phase 3. -
CL05:
If you apply for PLMGS are you going to parent volunteer? Or try under phase 2C? Think with the school distance, at least you stand a gd chance even under phase 2C. of course if you PV, then you're almost 100% guaranteed.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

of course, the issue is you might have to ballot for Maris Stella when it's yr boy's turn. if GMPS then second kid will be a breeze.
one aspect to consider is that PLMGS and MS are both affliated to their sec schools, and those schools have better reputations/standards than GMSS.
tough decisions... -

folks…some newbie qns here.
as i understand…MBS do not accept PV. i called them up and was refered to Singapore Buddhist Federation (SBF). SBF then informed that they do not take in individual members. Can someone advise what can i do to gain piority (2B) for my son’s registration?
