Hi iamyoung,Hi TAS
I am helping a friend of mine to ask about some things. I heard that there is a special project going on for the children in the area of creative writing. I heard that their work, if chosen, may get a chance to get published in a book, and the children will even get some rewards as well.
Thanks!
Do you have more information about this project, can pm me? -
Hi, I'm also a Easterner.
Will be most keen if there will be a class held in the East area

The Alternative Story:
Hi TAS,
Hi Fongg,Fongg:
Hi TAS,
I noticed that there are interesting ways to help in vocab.
I am in need of some help here.
What is the difference between
1. Beside vs Besides
2. Defuse vs Diffuse
Thank you
Yes, we often use mnemonics to increase the retention rate of the
students learning vocabulary.
Difference between Beside vs Besides
Beside: It means next to. Eg: She is beside me.
How to remember: Be-side, Be by my side. So if you
by my side, it means you are beside me.
Besides: It means in addition to. Eg: Besides, meat, I like fish.
How to remember: BesideS. The extra 's' can stand for
'something else'. So in addition to whatever you have, you want something else.
Difference between Defuse and Diffuse
Defuse: It means to disarm. Eg: The tense situation was
defused by her.
How to remember: De-fuse. You move the 'fuse' away from
the situation,thus calming things down.
Diffuse: It means to spread in all directions. Eg: Smoke
diffused throughout the room.
How ro remember: DI-ffuse. DI can stand for DI-fferent
DI-rections.

I learnt another thing from you again.
What an interesting example to show the differences between those 2 words!

Hi cloudy,Hi, I'm also a Easterner.

I heard that the last time before TAS got the Bukit Timah branch, they
were looking into getting a branch in the east, so that might be a strong
chance they would look into the east again, let's hope they will be convinced to go east when they see more people want them in the east

Btw, can pm me too..Hi TAS

I think this will make the children start to take pride in their writing. My friend's child is very unmotivated to write, she can write reasonably well but her plot is not well developed. She is from a \"branded\" school, and I think in her school, alot of her friends can write very well, so she gets demotivated.
Your location is abit too far for her, rather inconvenient.
I wonder if you have any holiday programs or one time off program for her to learn and participate in this project, to see whether her work can have a fighting chance of being published, or at least get motivated to write?
Thanks! -
Hi Easterners,
Nice hearing from you
we may be setting another centre but
we have not decided whether to have it in the east or north-east.
But we will let you know if we do set one up in the east.

East please, cos i am seriously considering to sign my son up for your class next year when's in P1 and your location is the one that's currently the deterrent.Hi Easterners,

concern.mum:
Hi concern.mum,Hi TAS, I was at your last workshop for parents at singapore post.
I really like the way how you all use mnemonics to remember spellings and rhythms to help remember the creative writing techniques.
A question about personification and metaphors, sometimes I forget the distinction between the 2, can you elaborate on that again?
This is the differentiation between personification and metaphors:
Personification:
- making a non-living object take on the characteristics of a living
person.
Eg:
- The room was swathed in a blanket of darkness. The darkness pressed
against me on all sides, threatening to rob me of all sight.
(making the darkness seem like a person, being able to press and rob
a person)
Metaphor:
- it carries the meaning of one word to another. It borrows
characteristics from one word to describe another.
Eg:
- The fire was a monster, tearing through the walls of the building
with the ferocity of a ravenous beast.
(comparing the fire to a beast or a monster)

Hi starlight,

Glad to be able to help..vocabulary is a minefield for many kids as they
usually lose a lot of marks in this section so using mnemonics
helps them to remember as many vocabulary words as possible
to help them do well in this section

ctrlaltdel:
Hi ctrlaltdel,
East please, cos i am seriously considering to sign my son up for your class next year when's in P1 and your location is the one that's currently the deterrent.
We will try
Now, it depends on being able to get a good location
and also on whether the North east or east has more people on our
waiting list.
