my child is dyslexic. hope I won't regret putting him in PH, P1 next year. 🙏

A friend has a child (now P6) who has serious ADHD. She claims no FT except a P5 FT bothered to read the medical assessment and provided special attention.

If you have a medical review, do make several copies n make an appt with the FT n MT teacher early to let them know your child's condition. JMHO

Yes Jennifer, I definitely have to speak to all his teachers as well as the principal as he has many other needs on top of being dyslexic. Just worried he'll struggle academically because of the \"high standard\" of SAP schools.

          Hi Parents

Any P1/P2 parents interested in sending your kids for the above Holiday Programme conducted by The Alternative Storey at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre? They need at least 3 kids to open a new class. I want to send dd there and request them to open a new class, ideal date is 7 Sep to 9 Sep. It is a 2-day programme.

Let me know if you are interested.

          Thanks.

            Jennifer:
Fo SA2 EL oral, the pupils are to retell a story they learnt during class. There were more than one story covered as part of the Big Book EL curriculum. The FT chose one story and the whole class would retell the same story during the actual oral test.

Last Monday, the FT wrote the essential outline of a story learnt in class during term 2. The pupils were told to copy down whatever she wrote on the white board and to practise and she would test them the next Monday.

Last week was a short sch week, Thur n Fri were designated PSLE oral days. So the pupils supposedly had many days to prepare for ytd oral practice.

Surprisingly, my P3 boy told me less than half the class were prepared for ytd practice. And for those who did, they only retell exactly whatever the teacher asked them to copy even though the teacher did mention the pupils could change some words or add in some words.

This incident makes me question the FT ability to manage the class. So many pupils did not bother to follow her instructions. Hiaz.
            Hi Jennifer
When is the ORal for P3? My blur son could not tell me when is it. What other components beside story retelling are there?

You may want to find out more and talk to him/her to see what he/she can do for your son.

hi all, anyone has lobang for a good Chinese tutor? this subject, no choice, gotta outsource, i can hardly read even his kinder homework! this tutor has to have a lot of patience and also preferably, lessons are built around multi-sensory as my child is dyslexic. hope I won't regret putting him in PH, P1 next year. 🙏

I have another friend with a dyslexic child. She tried quite some tutors and they did not work out. I think you may want to try and find one who is patient and capable of dealing with a dyslexic child. I recommended her one, but her charges is quite steep as she is a popular enrichment school teacher and she is really very patient and passionate. She knows the syallabus well too. She is now tutoring her P3 dyslexic son as well as another P1 son.

                  Hi IJJ,

When you say steep ... how much would that be? I've never sent my kids for tuition before so am unsure of 'market rates'. would be interested to know more about her method of teachings. do you have her contact?

                  Thanks!

Yup, according to MOE website, PH suppose to have SNO starting this July. My aunt who's a teacher in another school said SNO can't do much since they have the WHOLE school under their charge and they're not there everyday 😞 plus, other dyslexic parents with primary-going kids say that since my kid is with DAS already, SNO won't bother much about him as he has external support. SNO will only help those who can't get other supports. I wish all this is not true. Will definitely need to speak to the SNO and confirm what he/she can do for my child. Already sent email to request an appointment with SNO, now simply got to wait.

Hi parents with kids going to P1 next yr,

I hope your kids will be able to adjust to primary school life next year. It’s not going to be easy, since kindy and primary are different. All the best.

                      Hi blurqueen,
I’ve outsourced Chinese since K2…can’t save the money for this subject.

                      Jennifer,
Most kids do not take instructions seriously. I make sure my son writes down all his homework in the diary every day. Most of the time, I still check to make sure he does his work…and gives me all notes/letters from school.

There is a page 12 n 13 in the student handbook that lists the EL curriculum for each level.

P3: (a) Read a short passage, pronunciation, fluency, pitch n volume, (b) Pic discussion, describe, interpret, use a range of appropriate vocab & structures, (c) SA2 retell a story, correctly order the events, re-tell the main idea or problem of the story, use appropriate vocab & correct gramatical structures.

No sch letter given yet on when the oral is held.
