Fo SA2 EL oral, the pupils are to retell a story they learnt during class. There were more than one story covered as part of the Big Book EL curriculum. The FT chose one story and the whole class would retell the same story during the actual oral test.


Last Monday, the FT wrote the essential outline of a story learnt in class during term 2. The pupils were told to copy down whatever she wrote on the white board and to practise and she would test them the next Monday.

Last week was a short sch week, Thur n Fri were designated PSLE oral days. So the pupils supposedly had many days to prepare for ytd oral practice.

Surprisingly, my P3 boy told me less than half the class were prepared for ytd practice. And for those who did, they only retell exactly whatever the teacher asked them to copy even though the teacher did mention the pupils could change some words or add in some words.

This incident makes me question the FT ability to manage the class. So many pupils did not bother to follow her instructions. Hiaz.

My son told me there were a handful of classmates who did not get their homework done. The teacher called out their names and made them stand up. I'm shocked that kids at this level (P4) can ignore their basic responsibility :!: ...furthermore, it's not like there was so much homework.

From your description, and from what your son had conveyed, the FT had already given quite specific details of the assignment. Out of curiosity, what would you like the FT to have done instead? Perhaps to give out unofficial letters to the class and get the parents to acknowledge so as to ensure more kids will take her words seriously?

In my opinion, your son is taking his work seriously, which is commendable. The others might not see the importance of the assignment. It is quite typical still of some kids to ignore teacher's advise. If a kid is responsible, even words from a relief teacher can be taken seriously, during the FT's absence.

hi all, anyone has lobang for a good Chinese tutor? this subject, no choice, gotta outsource, i can hardly read even his kinder homework! this tutor has to have a lot of patience and also preferably, lessons are built around multi-sensory as my child is dyslexic. hope I won't regret putting him in PH, P1 next year.

I think a simple note written by the pupils in the comm handbook and to be signed by parents is needed in this case. Having spend so many mths with the class, she ought to know by now how many pupils take her instructions seriously (experience with the reading activity & Science card response). This is SA2 oral preparation, not a non-graded exercise.

Yes Jennifer, I definitely have to speak to all his teachers as well as the principal as he has many other needs on top of being dyslexic. Just worried he'll struggle academically because of the \"high standard\" of SAP schools.

When is the ORal for P3? My blur son could not tell me when is it. What other components beside story retelling are there?

You may want to find out more and talk to him/her to see what he/she can do for your son.
