My son will also be attending P1 next yr in Rosyth. I am trying to get some parents to meet before Orientation on 23 Oct, hoping that our kids can also make friends with each other before school starts. This way, they can settle faster knowing that they have some friends in the school before P1.

I’m trying to connect some of us together, especially those whose kids are going to P1 next yr. Was thinking that we can just meet up before Orientation day, let the kids know each other, so that they have some friends before starting P1. Think this can ease a little of their settling down in a new environment.

Also, will be great to know some current Rosythian parents. Can give us newbs great advice too!

Hi, i am new to this and am still figuring out how to reply even at this moment.


My children are currently studying in Rosyth and I am actually quite clueless to what's happening in their school lifes. They have very little homework and during holidays, they can play all day. While my newphews have to write journals and compositions...etc

Heard from my ex colleague that only students from better classes are given more work. My children are only average, usually the ones that will be easily missed.. :nailbite:

Hi for roysth does doing volunteer work helps in securing a place for my child in future?

It increases the chance of securing a place but not definite.

In the event whereby, the parent volunteer's child requires balloting under Phase 2B and those who fail to secure a place, the child can be put on waiting list and usually, priority will be given to the child whose parents' have put in the hours to serve the school then those whom has not.

I was a parent volunteer back then and my child did not secure a place under Phrase 2B. He was on the waiting list but secured the place only days before school start.

Rosyth do have a , they call it the LSP program for the weaker students . I have feedback from my Pr 1 gal that the weakest perfoming students in each class for each subject will have to attend extra lessons before school starts . But you still have to check with the school for more info...

First week of school , the whole class went through a reading test of identifying hundred common words to assess the children , marks were given , and parents were to sign and check.
The school do work closely with parents and my gal's form teacher even set up a blog for parents to share the events / photos / activities of the class...

Yes I remember those reading test.....My child scored only 27/100.. He was placed in the remedial classes. Think there were 6 students in all.
Didn't remember knowing how to read when I was in P1.... :roll:

Hi annamom,

May I ask which level are your children in? If lower level, I would have thought little homework is normal. I thought journals and compositions is once in 2 weeks kind of thing. Pri sch life is very siong now hor. :imdrowning:

I've heard other schools having learning support programs for students who are weak in specific subjects. And also workshops conducted for parents on topics like hanyu pinyin so that they could coach their children at home. I felt that this type of support by the school is very good. Wonder if Rosyth have such workshop?

Rosyth has a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) that sometimes work with outside vendor to conduct workshops to teach parents. Example of workshops conducted include Maths and Science. The school opens its classroom on weekends (Sat and Sun) for enrichment classes which include subject tuition, enrichment (abacus, calligraphy and chinese painting, etc) music, wushu, dance etc. Parents will have to pay for these classes for the kids to join, but it is at a cheaper rate compared with outside classes.

Previously, they have reading programme conducted by parent volunteers for the P1/ P2 kids weaker in reading. My DS class teacher used to start a buddy programme, whereby he had to bring his buddy to library twice a week to read with him.
