Hi Chenlaoshi,
Is there alot of difference for the words learnt between the old and new syllabus for all the 6 years? Or are they generally more or less the same words? I know lesson to lesson will be different as the textbook are different. I did glance through and saw that the words are pretty similiar. But not sure if I should keep my eldest 2017 psle 词语手册 for my child revision to go through the words to refresh the memory prior to PSLE ? The copy of 手册 given by his teacher seem really good to revise.
Also the model compo and comprehension, those seem like can be used and no need to get new one? Seem a waste to throw them away.
Appreciate your reply.

Thanks for your reply. Yes metal braces seems like a better option for the kids. I was also concern with them removing Invisalign during recess and then breaking it or dropping it or loosing it etc.
We went with the traditional metal braces. I feel that it’s more effective as it’s not removable. If your kid is still young, a teen, it is better so he doesn’t takes it off when he’s in pain. For Invisalign, it can be removed, at night or when brushing, or when in pain.. it’s nice that way but it defeats the purpose of having it. Especially when they can’t really feel the pain of the price paid. Lol.[/quote] -
RE: Edusave Scholarship Award
I believe GPA is based on improvements (top 10%) in position in school ie overall marks so technically can get it every year if you have made improvements significant enough to award it to you. Eg from position 400 to 300 to 200 to 100 to 50. I think they look more into how the child has improve and would like to encourage them with the award. You could get both the Edusave Academic Merit Award and the GPA award in the same year too. They are not mutually exclusive.

RE: Braces for kids
Hi hi,
Am considering braces for my gal and thinking of where to bring her. I am researching the type of braces and Invisalign has been popping up a lot. Are your kids mostly using metal braces as my usual dentist recommend going with the metal braces as he is the traditional kind. Anyone with Invisalign? Any comments other than costs? -
RE: Singapore Chinese Girls School (Secondary)
For Dance CCA this year, 5 was admitted from the audition. Not sure if there’s a reason for the small number or was it due to COVID but they are broken up into smaller group for online practices. The other thing to note is that Dance CCA also includes Chinese Dance in addition to Ballet. Their Chinese Dance is also very good.
For IP, the girls come from all over Spore and do blend in easily. -

Being selected is not luck. The test does not test proficiency in Chinese. This is my main complain of gep too.
My school did not do that either. A random teacher was sent to distribute the letters who asked some of the kids out of the classroom to give them a letter who simply told them to pass to their parents and not to show it to their friends.
I am not sure if it is just luck that my son was selected, as he is struggling a lot with Chinese. Even in the unlikely event that he will get selected a month later, I will not dare send him into GEP given that he cannot even pass Chinese. I am definitely going to drop HCL by P5 or the earliest I am allowed to drop it.
Maybe you should consider a GEP school with normal chi eg ACS etc if your son is selected. Dh was the first batch to be selected for the program and was struggling in a SAP pri school near his home. He was so happy to go to the gep school an hour away and said that was the best decision he made as a 9 yr old. It made all the difference in his learning from that point on.
No doubt the standard of chi is higher at gep level and my son also struggled with it at the higher gep level in primary school as we are Chi illiterate family but he is still doing higher chinese in secondary level. Hopefully, your son will meet a teacher who will inspire him in Chinese.
I dont doubt the selection test especially if you did not hothouse him or send him for training in Maths and Eng. He will enjoy the programme. To do well for PSLE, that's a different story as that require you to do well in all 4 subjects. -
RE: Cedar Girls Secondary School
For the last point on the promotion criteria, would like to understand what is the 4 H2 subjects that they are recommended to take for flexibility later on in choosing the subjects? I assume any combination in Sec 3/4 IP will allow the flexibility? Is there any combination that will not have the flexibility later on?
