I will suggest that u make arrangements for a car seat if u intend to drive. The laws regarding this is rather strict in Aus.

I’m wondering whether to bring my kid’s car seat too.

some people told me that it can be as expensive to rent a car seat there, as buying a car seat!

but I’ll only be there for 5 days and the car rental websites say that it’s only $8,50 aussie per day to rent, so I’m wondering whether I should just rent. maybe there are taxes that exceed the seat rental?? anyone has experience in renting and can advise? thanks!

IIRC, the law there requires car seat to be certified under their regulations. If you bring your own and do not meet their requirement, will still get caught.

It is not expensive to rent, but I was concerned over whether my DS would be comfy in that rented seat.

I did not know about this. But why wouldn't our child care seat meet their regulation?

Anyway, we were not stopped by any traffic police when we were there.

Do you have the details of their requirements?

thanks! wah, you are truly a 细心 dad. I thought only mums would be concerned with stuff like that, and the cleanliness of the rented car seats etc.

thanks! but i think maxi-cosi carseats will pass. They seemed to have passed the most stringent european/international standards. my concern is it's so bulky!

Just an update to share with any parents who might find it useful.

I rented a carseat from hertz in the end, after taxes it was about $10 a day, so pretty ok since I was on a short trip. And it was a decent carseat, clean enough, though I did wet wipe it once through before my kid got on it. 🙂

                        Hi all,

I have not been to Perth before… is Perth more suitable for young kids or will Melbourne be a better place?
