My choice is music, no lyrics, so classical or just instrumental. My office radio would tune in to class 90.5 which plays more oldies. When DH is home, it would be more R&B, which is better than those rap (to me, rap is like some nonsensical that was made up to legally rejoice swearing/cursing) that he loved so much when i first met him. To expose DS to his dad's culture, we would also tune in to radio stations online during weekends that plays parang/calyso/reggae. DS loves them, sometimes he would request and would dance to the tunes, which is really cute. :love:

DH discovered the new station FM96.3 with nice music interlude, all of us love it. Since birth, DS fall asleep in the calm and serenity music at night.

Not forgetting Class95 though, our all-time fave.

I have Symphony 92.4 on! And I listen to Western & Chinese classical ! Amazing huh? I never used to like either of these types of music. Used to like Richard Clayderman & Jazz like Kenny G, and other off-beat rhythms, but surprisingly these days I find music types like clayderman really shallow!

Somehow, the classics are what our kids like - don't ask me why. I didn't even bring them up that way. :? And I grew to appreciate them as well. :!: 10 years ago, if you ask me to watch/listen to Chinese traditional music, I'd be like *roll eyes*!. :shock: Strange, huh?

Can only listen to classical/instumental when DH is not hime, he can't stand it :roll: Don't quite fancy class 95, cos don't like one of the DJ, she just too much of herself, when on air can't stop talking about herself and worst is that she like to share stuff thats just too personnal for me :shock: (my apologies to all her fans here, strictly my personnal view).

Class96.3 is cool, but most weekends DH prefers to llisten to overseas stations online, thats why we invested on some good speakers for PC

Speaking of overseas radio channel, there are a lot of good internet radio channels out there. Personally I would recommend DI.FM


http://www.di.fm/ they have LOADS of channels catering to different tastes, running 24/7, so I daresay listeners really spoilt for choice. Personally I favourite the Eurodance channel :lol:

Ha! In fact we only listen to Class95 occasionally now, don't know who the DJs are. It's best to tune in after 10pm, solely songs.... go best when the MJ game's on.

I'm bringing my DD to her first serious classical concert this Friday at the Esplanade. The SSO is playing Beethoven's Emperor Concerto and Saint-Saens' Organ Symphony.


I listen to \"classical\" music, but my tastes range from the Early Music era (circa 11-14th centuries) to about the mid-1950s. In my opinion, musical genres are not always helpful, since, for example, Early secular music was the \"pop rock\" of its time, and Handel's oratorios were the British 18th century equivalent of today's musicals, plus today's cinema scores are often composed in \"classical\" style.

I also listen to J-pop/rock a lot.

I like almost everything. From Jay Chou to Rihana to soundtracks (I love Twillight) to Qi Qin to Hong Kong singers (Alan Tam, Andy Lau) to Jose Gorban, Jason Mraz (I love Jason !), Rod Steward ..... My ipod is full of rojak ! But most importantly, I try to listen to what my girl is listening to and like what she likes.

To my delight, she loved it.

If it helps, here was my complete strategy:

1. I picked her up only after she had her afternoon nap at childcare. Very important otherwise by the intermission she'd probably be tired = very cranky.

1a. As we arrived early at City Hall, I brought her up to Robinsons and bought her a toy. (This step only if you feel like it lah).

2. We had a nice dinner before the concert at Ichiban Boshi, Esplanade. Surprisingly her meal of half-udon + 1xsushi + drink only cost me about $10. Less after $10 voucher from my fuyu loyalty card...

3. Make sure she pees before concert.... (twice).

4. I bought two seats at Balcony (E) - because I believed she would not appreciate sitting still in the \"crowded\" foyer. The nice view helps, as does the fact that she won't disturb others seated nearby.

5. Communication is important - but since you can't talk during the concert, I brought along her favourite notebook and a pen, and we scribbled messages to each other during the concert. She wrote her reactions to the orchestra, music, etc. Also produces a nice souvenir at the end.

6. Finally of course, realistically friendly programme. I was a little concerned at the long 20-minute first movement of the Emperor, but she enjoyed both pieces.
