7 New IP schools

Way2GO:
in a nutshell, PSLE is a placement exam, or more bluntly, a national ranking exams. so the target is to out do all your friendskiaaik:
does this mean that eg if a girl who scored 250 may not be able to get IP at CGS (if more than half of her cohort at cgs scored above 250), but a girl who scored 240 may get IP at SCGS (no disrespect, just eg) if half of her cohort at scgs scored below 240)?
Please don't get so hung up on COP
which is really just a number used as a point of reference
for the last person with dat T score admitted into a sec. school
in posting exercise (sans DSA etc...)
MOE adjust PSLE raw scores into T scores.
In previous years, the T scores for d top 8 -10 % of each cohort,
fall ard 250 +- 2 to 3 points, after applying normal distribution.
These 8 - 10% generally choose the IP track or NUSHS.
With an additional 7 IP schools, more students can get onto IP track,
perhaps with lower T scores.
But d COP is not the criteria which gets you into your school of choice.
It is how ur kid performs against his/her cohort in dat year.
The higher up he/she is up in d pecking order,
the greater choices he/she has.
It is as simple as dat. -

COP still needs to meet the std of close to 255 and above in order to secure an IP school. So just work hard to aim for this score and there will be more choices for school.
whether is 255 or whatever, it is just up to MOE to draw THAT line in the normal distribution bell curve
the guy at Buona Vista staring at the computer will just see where to drop the line .... is it at top 8% or top 10% or top 12%....they can just make the top 12% to be 255 and above ....etc
Hence, please note, last year's 255 is NOT the same as this year's 255.....it is just a ranking against the whole cohort. BTW, the t-score is in 13 decimal places -
Augmum:
even for the present IP school like RI or HCI, if don't do well, kena transferred to O level track, or worse, get kicked out of school. NOT unheard of.
does it mean that choosing a \"so called IP school\" but in the end is not a certain/ gurantee to be in the \"IP class\"kiaaik:

then i reckon there will hassles/problems of \"transferring school issues\" -

I think MOE did state that all IP schools still can accept students from non-IP schools in Sec 3, correct me if I am wrong.
In the same report, its mentioned that the Cedar Girls on IP will remain in Cedar for 4 years. Does that mean the VS boys on IP will also remain in the VS for 4 yrs. So what's happening with the current VJC VIP model where the students start their IP in VJC in Sec 3,4 and then carry thru to the JC1/2 years. Is that going to be discontinued in the future? It will be such a waste as that pgm has been around since 2005.sporemum:
I read in the Straits Times today about how a group of 8 old boys and teachers of VS has courted Cedar. I am really impressed with the Victorian brand of education, and won't have any hesitation sending my children to VS and CGS.
I think a VS-VJC merger will be in the pipeline in the future, as mentioned in the same newspapers report.
Yesterday's news mentioned that 50 VS boys and 50 Cedar girls entering sec 1 in 2011 will be selected to do the IP in Sec 3 in 2013 as interim measure (since the vs/cedar/Vjc IP will only start in 2012). I presume this batch will be doing the current VIP for the time being. Does this mean that the VIP will not accept students other than VS/Cedar for this cohort? VIP is currently open to all other schools to apply for entering at Sec3. This is a pertinent issue for the P6's this year.
So I think VJC IP will still be around until 2013 or 2012.
i also think VJC's IP will likely continue on for awhile still and TIME the STOP of IP on VJC's side UNTIL feeder students from Victoria Sch and Cedar make a smooth transition into VJC around 2016... so there will be NO GAP/STOPPAGE for VJC - if my calculation dont mess up - likely till 2013 for last batch for VJC's current Sec 3 intake IP
very likely VS's IP will also be there in Victoria School for 4 years... no details out from VS or VJC side yet ... should look for their website maybe to be sure or news report... -

thanks for pointing out, verykiasu and verysuaku!
CHS is not the only SAP School among the Catholic Schools. St Nics, Maris Stella are also SAP Schools.verykiasu2010:
\"misfit\" because CHS has been a SAP school, while the rest of the Cath schools are not
correct me if i am wrong -
kiaaik:
i wonder, if eg, a student who entered RI via DSC, get to do IP too?
the whole of RI is IP -
Just a note for parents: Getting into an IP programme doesn’t necessarily guarantee you a 6 year thru-train. Some schools will re-evaluate the students at different stages. For eg., at the end of Year 2, if your child is not performing up to standard, the school can ask your child to switch back to the O level track. ACSI and some other IP schools do this currently.

No. They do not run dual track. All are 100% IP from Sec 1 onwards. However, if they do badly in year 2 / 3....they will be asked to go do O level. May be RI does not create an O level class because the drop out is almost nil, hence the rare ones got transferred out. For HCI, they promised the parents to take care of the kids once they are in HCI regardless how they perform, they are more \"merciful\" to create a small O level class for their own boys. Many parents have noted that HCI is a very caring community. If the HCI O level boys do well, they can get back into the IP...by then JC 1 liao
