      Hi markfch,

I went to have a look at Yamaha U1 & U3 yesterday. The salesperson told me both are equally good for learning till grade 8, and U3's height is taller. Not too sure which one to get. Any advice?
That's a tough one to call. A U3 cost $2k more than a U1. If I were the one buying for my ds to play, I'll bring him to try out both pianos and ask him to choose. If he can't decide, that means he couldn't tell the difference between the two, then obviously I'll take the cheaper one.

You know there is a popular saying in pianoworld, which is 'You can't go wrong with a Yammie.'

After my dd tried a U3, she immediately set her heart on U3 & none other pianos can entice her. At Kawai showroom, she even declare loudly 'I want U3'

            Hi sleepy & markfch,

Precisely! My DD only tried the U3 once & told me she likes that & when I asked her which she prefers, she says U3. I asked her what's the difference, she says U3 plays louder music & the feeling is different.

thinking of using it as an incentive to entice her to pass her grade 8 quickly la .....[/quote]A brand new C3 costs around $33K. For pre-owned ones, I guess it really depends on the condition & no. of years pre-owned. I believe you should be able to get a reasonably good pre-owned C3 for around $20K.

Imho, you don't need to limit the choice to only yammie, cos there should be other good pre-owned grands available at the same budget. I've read from piano forums that this local shop called Emmanuel & Sons is quite helpful & don't hard sell their 2nd hand pianos.

But this is just hearsay, cos I've never dealt with them before. I bought both of my pianos first hand.

Maybe that's because I gave you the wrong model. What I meant is actually YUS5, the top model of yammie's upright range. I think it has the sostenuto pedal that is needed at diploma level. Doesn't she look gorgeous below πŸ˜„
