Rulang Primary

Dear All,
When I saw u guys discussing Rulang Pri Sch, I can't help to join in. My friend told me that her kid studying in Rulang P6. Since P6 students are facing PSLE, the teachers became more \"dilligent\". They asked her kid to go back to school at 6.30 am to hv an hour tution before the flag raising ceremony. The kids also hv to stay back until 4 pm every day. The kids also were given a lot of homework. :x One of the teachers told the class that they hv to do well in PSLE. One mark higher, one more dollar gain. (I think the teacher talked about their performance bonus.) I think mindless drilling cause more students want to give up. They don't think leaning and studying are interesting. They learn just for parents' desire and teachers' salary. The students are requested to memorise the oral notes and recite them many times. They recite the notes until some of them lose their voice. I feel sorry about it. Later, I get angry. How eduction the school offer to the students. PSLE results can bring honour to the school. However, what and who bring the real education to the kids. Hope the school reflect the teaching method or approach they used.

It's the fact that in order to score for PSLE, the students must go through drills and practice. I wonder why are the parents here so shocked at this fact.
Drilling and practise I hope comes in moderation. At least not to the extent whereby children have no chance to be a child like watch some TV, play and just fool around sometimes
I knew that is what I had and I wish the same for my child...hope its not wishful thinking...
Lock:
The only difference between Rulang and other top performing schools is that students in Rulang are drilled by the school, whereas students in the other top schools are drilled by the various tuition centres they attend.
Isn't it wonderful that Rulang actually prepares students for PSLE and there's no need for students to have tuitions? Imagine the time and money saved.Lock:
I would appreciate if the school makes an effort to prepare the child for PSLE without the intention of expecting parents to supplement with external tuitions. That is great! But if it overdoes the drilling and makes children despise school or despise learning.. then I feel a change is necessary..i wish my child will leave her primary school years with sweet memories like I have...In view of that, I wld rather have the sch preapre my child for the PSLE without me having to send him for tuitions.

Ghees,
I appreciate the part whereby students are getting good coaching from the school and kids almost require no extra tuition apart of handling the schoolwork.
However giving excessive homework is killing the interest of learning in the child.
There should be a balance.
I donโt want my kids to hate their Primary school life keke. -

Your child also in/going to Rulang? -
I agree with PRmummy. Itโs impt dat kids still be kids in d midst of preparing for exams n learning. I cannot imagine a Sch tr will be so inhumane as to give hmwk thatโs impossible to complete. Cld it due to mismanagement of time dat a kid has to do hmwk till past midnite?
As for extra lessons at 6.30am or till 4pm, I feel as parents we can choose not to attend. Am sure trs will not force. Many times itโs d parents who r afraid of losing out n go wif d flow. I am very sure I will not let my boy go for d 6.30am class even if it means he may lose out to his peers. parents do hv d power to decide wat kind of childhood u want for ur kid n partner wif d Sch to ensure dat our kids experience d best Sch life possible. -
