I was told the more a kid pract, more often to change the strings. Btw, how do u determine if the strings are required to change. My DS violin is a year old now, i can hear the sound is not as bright, not sure if its time to change strings.

Bt mine is only using half size, even if use expensive strings may not bring out the sound properly.

Yea, if you find the sound quality of the strings has reduced, then do change. I used to do that too. Change everything - nice, nice. but now I don't bother - leave the boy to do himself. The only time he took everything out and changed everything was when his violin got wet in a downpour not too long ago - violin case was soaked thru by the time he made it from school->violin lesson->home.

When we change the violin from 1/4 size to 1/2 size, was told that we can get a bottom range of 1/2 size violin but must change all the strings to the top-range or reasonable priced range of strings.
According to the teacher, the strings used will make a difference.
