I think you should start latest by June 2010, your girl will be starting P1 in 2012 rite? If the school does not respond to you, and especially if it is a popular school, then maybe you should take some time off and go and meet the principal. I had sent apps to 2 schools for PV by email, one didn't get back, but since it was my 2nd choice I didn't bother too much. A friend of mine, who was interested in that school had to go there 2-3 times before they took her as a PV.

      Hi honeystar?

What about a reading programme? I am a FTWM and I do a reading prg at a school twice a week for about 30 mins each time. It takes some time to finish the 40 hours, but in between you can take 1/2 day or holiday (take CCL got 6 this year onwards) and clock in some hours which makes a big difference to the final 40 hrs.

      Hope this helps...
can anybody share with me what is usually expected for a PV? I'm a wkg mum, and dun hv a unique skills set, hw ah? what type of services can I volunteer for?

Thank you for the info. I email the school to enquire about their PV, but no reply after 2 follw-up emails. Guess their mailbox must be flooded with queries for PV. Do you know when the registration usually starts? My gal born in year 2005, hence has to start PV by next year (i think)
honeystar,

i had emailed 2 different schools for pv and also no replies. best to give them a call cos probably they are concentrating on the 2004 kids pv enquiries at this moment. for 2005 kid, most schools will start pv next year.
is it better to send more than 1 school? Or juz concentrate on one? I've 2 schs in mind: one is w/i 2km, and requires balloting even in 2B (hot sch). 2nd sch is w/i 1km, if i not accepted for PV, at least I stand a chance to ballot in 2C (but risky leh). So is it better to juz \"focus\" on the 2nd sch? Pai sey, trying to pass my problem to others  At least the 1st sch has the courtesy to reply my email!

Yes, definitely! In case one rejects u mah... nowadays schools are very selective in their PV intake.

yes!! i took Luanee's advice and wrote in to both at the same time.
some parents even pv-ed at both to gain a better insight before deciding which to register.

I also agree, try both - even if you get PV in both you can always drop out from 1 school before completing the 40 hours if you are not comfy with them

PVed 2 schs ?! Wow very time-consuming… Somemore I’m a wkg mum. My hubby said not to apply PV for the sch that is outside 1km, coz since it requires balloting even in 2B. Then we are only left with 1 choice… He only provides moral support (ie. talk only) but wants me to be volunteer ! :x Jz hve to monitor the take-up rate for this year.

The thots of having to go thru the selection/interview for PV really makes me cold sweat, jz like job interview. But for the sake of our "next generation", what to do…

Yes it is advisable toPV more schools to have more calling cards.A friend of mine PV 4 schools just to gain more info of the schools. 😉

Why don't you just send in an application to both schools? That way you can atleast visit them once and have a feel of the school/s, so that your final decision is not just based on distance

                      Hi all ..

Have received varying inputs .. Is the right time to apply to schools for PV - two years before child is due to join school ?

2005 born kids - how do I work backwards? 2 yrs from June of the year before they join P1?

                      many thanks
                      🙏

For 2005 kids, they would be joining P1 in 2012. Registration in 2011. So count 2 yrs backwards from that, you can start ur PV applications in 2009. MOM criterion is that you must join as PV latest by June 2010 in order to qualify for 2011 registration, but some schools open up their PV intake earlier. So it would be safer if u start writing in from 2009. But then again, some schools may not open their applications that early. So all depends on which school u looking at. Best is to call up that school to enquire.
