      Hi jce,

Do you have any music school in mind which you can recommend for beginner (children)? Any teacher particular?

      jce:
      I have a U5 too.

By the way, most teachers (esp the good ones) don't travel to the students' home. And for dip level, you'll need a good one to see the kid through. Passing the piano dip (ABRSM) is not easy. Level of expectation is high.

I’m a piano teacher… you can try Phileia Music at Goldhill Plaza. My friend is the director there. She doesn’t teach beginners but GENERALLY I think her selection of teachers are pretty decent.

Personally I think can be used up to grade 8 IF it’s a good piano - as in action is good, soundboard is good. To me, the height is secondary although the length of the strings will affect the sound. But as I said, action and soundboard is more important than height

Thanks for your advise, errrrrrr, how to check the action and soundboard of a piano?

You’ll have to find someone who can play the piano very well to check out the action. As for sound, trust your ears and your instinct. Otherwise find a reputable piano firm and trust the salesperson/technician.

                  Hi jce,

Do you have any recommendation of the 2nd piano shops? Have you heard of century piano ( Used to be at Liang court, now located at Kallang Leisure park)?

I normally go to the one near Paya Lebar mrt, think it’s called Jesslyn or something like that. So far my experience with them has been good. Yes, I’ve heard of Century but have not been there.

Visited the shop when I was shopping for a piano. Their pianos are priced higher than other 2nd hand shops. However, I heard the owner personally flew overseas to select those pianos before importing. So kind of ease of mind to have an experienced person to personally vet those pianos. For that, I made an offer (not exactly the ideal model but it' one of the newer ones in term of age). Nevertheless, cannot reach concensus in price after negotiation. For the price they are asking, somehow still not worth paying that much for a used set. Might as well top up a couple of $K to get a brand new
