for those who are thinking of sending the kids to the US for uni studies, it may be a good time to look into buying some ppty in the US now, it has become very very cheap since the banking crisis.....and after the kids have graduated, can still keep to stay if they work in the US, or sell then after the capital appreciation.....US$ now is about 1.35 ??

today 1.3338 (yahoo converter's price. perhaps mid price)

anyway, this is record low rate....MAS said it will step in to buy up US$...if it drops to below 1.34...??

HSBC estimates the exchange rate will reach 1.29 by this year-end. They may be wrong of course. Guess by the time my kids go colleage, it is likely to reach 1.0 Then it is better not to buy US property now?

My personal view is to equip oneself with the financial know-how and wait for the right opportunity to enter the stock market.

For one who is financially literate, that person can choose to have a concentrated porfolio rather than a basket of stocks like unit trust. One can hold no more than 3-5 different stocks. Purchase should begin prefably 6-9 months after a major financial crisis on different days to average your costs. One may choose to progressively liquidate the port folio over the duration of a prolonged boom period.

There’s no need to trade the market regulary but there’s a need to monitor the economic climate and operating enviroment. Must have the fortitude and willingness to buy during depress times and learn to sit tight during economic recovery. The former takes courage whereas the latter is extremely difficult to master.

You will be surprise to see excellent bargains during difficult times. At such period, dividends alone can exceed 10% and one can even buy at below cash value.

I am currently hanging on to my genting babe  😉 Unfortunately got rid of 50% of holding along the way.... :stupid: thinking I can realise some gains and buy back at cheaper price. Usually.... forget to buy back or have the mentality, it's not low enough yet and again missed the boat. 😢 My holding are at 70 cents level... when people garang garang go in and buy at $1.20, $1.50, $1.80... I really have no guts to go in. Haha wonder any genting supporter here. This darling allowed me to recoup the trading blunders that I've made in the early stage.

Personally, I prefer to trade on US market. Just need to monitor for the right time to go in. It goes up and down all the time. Keep alookout when it is down, there are good stocks for picking. We've encounter scenario of entering too early when it starts to fall.... so the share price drop more than US$1. But within 3 months, we managed to recoup and made gains. It's alot more volatile. Not for the weak hearted. But do your homework, be patient and there is still chance of making $.
