if your son is keen, why not sign up the course directly with SCF?
I understand SCF really encourage young beginners to participate even in the primary Under 8 category...
if your son is keen and start learning early, surely he will have much advantage.... -
can anyone suggest a chess class for my 6yr old son ( if possible somewhere arnd jurong area)

so long as he knows what the best move is, if he can't write well for his worksheets, you can help him to write lah ...
an alternative is buy a software (e.g, Chessimo) for him provided you have time to guide him through... -
IntChess Asia offers chess courses as well, apart from SCF.
There are some personal coaches as well.
From my personal experience, I think it is too early for 4 or 5 year old kids to learn chess formally, even if they are very bright. This is because they can’t even write the moves properly or write them too slowly. 51/2 to 6 years old is about fine. But you can of course teach the kids by yourself…
If somebody points out to you that some world-famous chess grandmasters start early, it is because these kids, like Sammy Reschevsky, can simply look at the board and memorize everything on them…
Don’t be too disappointed if your child cannot do the brilliant… because not every chess prodigy turns out well… Look at Robert James Fischer… -

I think I will continue to play with him and send him later for formal training. Even though he is able to play basic chess, I guess he is still too young to handle the tactics and strategy part.
Qizai, you mention about the personal coaching. Do you know roughly how much it cost? -

Do you intend to attend the class too? The lady told me that it will be better for parent to join esp if the child is young. This also means paying double fees.
Maybe I should 'advertise' some benefits of playing chess so more parents will be interested in enrolling their child.
