2010 PSLE T-score

27/30 for booklet A.
64.5/65 for booklet B.
I have gotten full marks in mock papers before but I need to ensure consistency. I got 88 for prelims (26/30 and 62/65).
I use this guide for A*:
Paper 1- at least 36, which is no problem for me, i got 38 for CA1
Oral- 27/30- 9 for every component
Listening comprehension: Full marks. This is one of the easiest areas to score in.
Situational writing- 15/15
Paper 2- 88/95. Broken down into:
Graphic stimulus- 5
Grammar MCQ- 7
Vocab MCQ- 4
Punctuation- 3
Vocab cloze- 4
Compre MCQ- 5
---- TOTAL FOR SECTION A: 28/30
Grammar cloze- 10
Editing- 10
Compre cloze- 13
Synthesis- 10
Compre OE- 17
---- TOTAL FOR BOOKLET B: 60/65
TOTAL: 60+ 28= 88/95
Grand total: 88 + 27 + 36 + 15 + 20 = 186/200 which is 93%, an A*. But needless to say I have more potential. My american friend got 95%. -

Someone just shared with me, if the child is from the elite school, the top class, as in the top ten students in the top class, usually their results will be quite close to the psle t score.
Of course, the only rare case is when "accident"happens, which no one wants.Nervous break down, write out of point for compo, if not, can safely say that children from those classes , their t score will be quite accurately reflected in the exam…at some point, u can see the consistency. -

Referring to an earlier poster who mentioned that he got 38 for Compo and full for Paper 2 in EL, how do you do it? i always only get 32-35 for Compo and 87-90 for EL. For compo is it description? Do you need to put in many good phrases? Or is it a good storyline? in any case, does a good storyline need to have a twist? Can a normal run-of-the-mill story (classic topics like robbery/cheating etc) get 18-19 for Content?
Anyone knows also how to get high in Chinese Compo? The highest I get is 31, but my teacher is one from China and China teachers tend to give lower marks. My P5 teacher gave me a highest of 34.

These are the pointers I can give you-
Never spend too much on the scenery; it does not add value. The examiners do not care if the azure blue clouds look like cotton wool or the dull grey nimbostratii was a stark difference from the clear sky an hour ago. Don’t do that unless those clouds are gonna come down and do something to your story!
Use good phrases but don’t overdo this. It will not add value. Sometimes I also make up my own phrases. You can use idioms, proverbs, etc.
Link up with real events. For example, when I was told to write a story about a runway overrun, I linked up with Air France Flight 358 (AF358) which was caused by pilot error, then I proceeded to explan the consequences of negligence.
Make your stories thrilling. Personally I use an interesting plot with twists and lots of suspense. The greatest concentration of good words should be at the climax. I also try to make my stories thrilling which will force the reader/marker to read on – this is extremely important. But don’t go out of point.
Not forgetting grammar. I do not need to go in-depth.
Length. For a composition to score <36 it usually needs to be at least 6 pages in length, from my experience. I wrote 10 pages in CA1 with 10 mins left to check but if you can’t write as fast, it’s fine.
Use a touching ending. For some reason this seems to boost my marks alot.
I could give alot more, but I’m on my phone and the touch screen keyboard is annoying, so that’s it for now

of course for the top kids of the top class, meaning top of the cohort, their gain from prelim to actual is quite limited, and there are some \"accidentals\" whose prelim tscore was higher than actual, due to physical injury or \"accidents\" on the day .... -
