My son is bochap 😢 and needs to be nagged to get work done. Even if he does his work, he does so because he has to...doesn't put in much effort.
      Your Boy in P4?
Better council him a bit - coz P5 next year will have tonnes more HW.
My Gal hardly bring HW back in P1 to P4 - says she can finish during school hours.
Now in P5, she has to do HW everyday - esp her HCL, every wk have to do a min of 2 compo (HW given in class, to pass up the next day ..... )
Whatever happens to No-HW Day (used to be on every Wed ? .....)

Wld like to check with you on lessons for NC and HCL.

During my elder boy's time (since P5), the sch does not conduct extra lessons for NC. Is this still the practice now?

          Hi Funx3,

          Thanks for the valuable info.
Son had quite a heavy load of homework in the early part of the year, slowed down after June holidays. His artwork was outsourced to hubby and younger daughter…she did the colouring and cutting for him.

Neighbour has a son in P5. She also prepared me for a tougher time in P5. He will be very busy next year with homework, on top of that twice weekly supplementary lessons after school. I will have more time to coach daughter who’s going to P1. Would I dare to think of #3 ???

            Yeah, still the same.
Our kids are group into Banding Class for HCL : C1, C2, ....
Classes conducted for HCL only - but have to take exam for both CL and HCL.
DD Often complain how come only C1 got so M-U-C-H more assignments / Projects / presentations / even Chinese Debates, etc than other classes. In her own Words - \" Soooo UnFair!\"

                Hi Funx3,

Poor son couldn’t finish so much work, so had to ‘outsource’ non-crucial work to younger sister and hubby. The first half of the year was very tough with teachers piling on work daily, esp Fridays.

I’m still hoping she will be in the morn session next year…will only know in Nov during her Orientation.

By the time #3 is born, son will be 11 and daughter 7. No more kids…factory is closed. So happy to send off the last hopeless maid.

                  Hi janet_lee88,

Just thought of this, with your DS in P5 next year, he can be your DD "Buddy" during the 1st wk in school!

Don’t think Got Chance for P1/P2 to be morning session next year. Class Rooms seem to be fully utilised now.

Just Another Anecdote from my DD after this year’s P1 1st wk in school …
"Why P1 students carry such HEAVY bags??? Got so many things to bring-Meh? It’s heavier than my P5 school bag!!!" - Comments from ALL DD classmates volunteering as "Buddies", who has "Graciously" Help to carry their younger P1 "Buddies" school bags, walking up 3 flights of stairs … Pant … Pant … Puff … Puff …

My daughter will not be going to Pei Hwa next year...she's going to CHIJ Toa Payoh. Hubby & I discussed this and decided to put her in my former school.

Just curious, I thought HCL is taught from P1 onwards? If there is HCL subject banding, does that mean that in P5 charity, there are also students that don't go to the best performing HCL class?

                        markfch,

Higher Chinese is taught from P1 and can be dropped at P5.
I’m still undecided if son should continue with HCL next year or drop it as Jennifer mentioned earlier about the heavier workload at P5 and if he continues with HCL, it will be tougher. Heard there is a lot of copying of 笔记. We don’t speak Mandarin at home too.
However, someone told me that taking HCL helps at P6 as there are points to be earned.
