Hi Jennifer,
Yes, only the first 4 classes you mentioned take sheng guang...my son in Kindness wasn't taught that extra section. -

Are u aware if the cohort is tested this extra section?Hi Jennifer,

My dd’s Chinese teacher treats the 深广 as another 课文 and would get the kids to write 笔记 from this section too. I remember seeing the 词语 appearing in the 词语搭配 section in the exam.
It’s quite amazing that her teacher can be ahead of the units and yet cater time for Chinese Drama Club enrichment during curriculum time. Good planning. -
Hi E3/Jennifer,
When my son was in P1/2, he was tested on 识认字 in the glossary but starting from P3, everything (识认字 and 识写字) are tested in the exam. Like what E3 mentioned, Pei Hwa is a SAP school and so it shouldn’t be surprising that whatever can be tested will be tested.
PS: Exam time-table schedule has been distributed. -

Meaning we must teach the sheng guang passage at home in the event the child is not in the 1st 4 classes since it is being tested in exam? -
Jennifer:
IMO, the 深广 passages for the lower primary texts are not really difficult so it should be manageable if a couple of questions taken from these passages do come out for exams. Kids who did not learn the 词语 could easily answer by elimination or if they had understood what was taught to them, they could use their discretion. However, I am not too sure whether 深广词语 was deliberately omitted when setting the chinese papers across all the levels.janet_lee88:

I am getting my son to try and remember every character in the 生子表, be it 识认字 or 识写字. Just learn everything esp 词语 and 汉语拼音…never know what will be tested. These 2 sections always appear on the first 2 pages of exam.

Can the duration for SA1 and SA2 chinese pp 1 be different? It was 1 hour 20 mins for SA1, the recent memo stated 1 hour for SA2. The test components remained unchanged: one compo plus 10 sentence-constructions.
No matter how super one can be, I doubt I can train my dd to write a good chinese compo plus 10 good sentences in 1 hour.
What’s the duration for P3 onwards like for Chi pp1? What are the test components? -
This is so frustrating and out of hand...
I called the GO to ask to speak to Chinese HOD to clarify the duration for Chi pp1. A clerk picked up and transferred the call, I was put on hold (listening to music) for a long time. Instead of getting back to me to tell me that nobody picked up, she let me hang on the phone, then...a boy picked up and started dialing...he heard my voice and said, \"Oh, sorry wrong number.\"...never mind....I called a second time, another person picked up, didn't know how to do the transfer and hung up on me! I have the patience to call the third time, yet, another person picked up and said she could only take a message, cos \"This is a school, teachers come in and out, we do not know when they will be around so we will take a message and that's all the counter clerk can do.\"
What is this? :stupid: -

Hi E3, i understand your frustration. I believe the staff in GO need to improve their communcation techniques. However, contacting a teacher through phone is highly not recommended. Most of the time, teachers are teaching in classes and it is difficult to get them unless you know very well the free slot of that particular teacher. Communication via email is a better method to get in touch with teachers. I tried a few times sending emails to my dd's FT and i got her responses within the same day. Maybe you should just try sending an email to the HOD instead....This is so frustrating and out of hand...
