I was told that P5 classes are streamed based on P4 EL SA2 results. The cohort then undergoes subject banding for Mother tongue (HCL or NC) and Maths. During my elder boy's time, Science is not banded.


I suppose P2 to P4 streaming is based on overall aggregate score.

Yup, Pei Hwa not mentioned...most prob it will be nearer 2014 then.

The sch being a SAP sch uses the HCL textbook from P1 to P6.


The only exception is for some classes in P5 n P6 which take only NC, these classes use the NC textbook.

Those P5 n P6 classes which take HCL use only one HCL textbook.

From my experience, for P2 n P3 classes, only the 1st four classes (CH, FA, GR, HO) learn the last passage \"sheng guang\" (enrichment) in the HCL textbook.

My elder boy was in CH (P5 n P6), he was not in C1 (the best perfoming HCL class). For 1st semester P6, he was in C5, the 2nd semester he was transferred to C4.

Yes, only the first 4 classes you mentioned take sheng guang...my son in Kindness wasn't taught that extra section.

My dd’s Chinese teacher treats the 深广 as another 课文 and would get the kids to write 笔记 from this section too. I remember seeing the 词语 appearing in the 词语搭配 section in the exam.


It’s quite amazing that her teacher can be ahead of the units and yet cater time for Chinese Drama Club enrichment during curriculum time. Good planning.

Hi E3/Jennifer,

When my son was in P1/2, he was tested on 识认字 in the glossary but starting from P3, everything (识认字 and 识写字) are tested in the exam. Like what E3 mentioned, Pei Hwa is a SAP school and so it shouldn’t be surprising that whatever can be tested will be tested.

PS: Exam time-table schedule has been distributed.

IMO, the 深广 passages for the lower primary texts are not really difficult so it should be manageable if a couple of questions taken from these passages do come out for exams. Kids who did not learn the 词语 could easily answer by elimination or if they had understood what was taught to them, they could use their discretion. However, I am not too sure whether 深广词语 was deliberately omitted when setting the chinese papers across all the levels.
