Hi there, thank you for ur reply. We r neither catholics or nor volunteers.
We would have to apply thr Phase 2C. then again, is there any way to access if we are within 2km?
Pls advise if there is any tool to determine the distance.
Pls note we are indians.
      Hi Serpent,

Try this site. simply type in your address and it will calculate the distances of schools within the circumference of your address 1-2km . very useful.

        HI guppy,

        Thanks for your reply.
Now I know what to expect. Looks like I will be torn between the 2 kids should there be excursions next year.
Hubby has a colleague who has 2 daughters in CHIJ TP, 3rd one in P1 next year too. She is always busy baking cakes/cookies with her daughters now. Is it very relaxed in the school ? :?
I think its relaxed compared to the amount of homework my other friends' children who are in the \"top\" schools get during the school hols.

I'm glad I've chosen CHIJ Toa Payoh for not emphasizing too much on academic education. My son in Pei Hwa started to have more homework as he moved up to P3 and now P4...heard from neighbour next year will be worse.

The amount of homework increases from P3. It can be quite bad at times…but this could depend on the teacher or class your daughter is in.

BTW, IJ TP does not take in parent volunteers for P1 registration. They have a strong volunteer group comprising old girls and parents of existing students, so they don’t need extra hands.

Thanks for the valuable update...appreciate it very much.
It's nice to know old girls and parents are such a strong support group, but this is bad news for parents who want to put their girls there.

                  Is CCA compulsory ?
Hi, I was told that CCA will begin at P3. At P2 term 3 onwards, teachers will select and shortlist students who show potential in gym and/or choir. They will be asked to attend training and practice after sch.

Another piece of good news - There will be no streaming for P2 girls this year. The school will stream them at the end of P3. However, the teachers will identify students who are strong in Maths/English and group them together for effective teaching. They did not mention how grouping and lessons will be conducted ie whether they will be put into separate classes during lessons, or attend the same class but do advanced worksheet??? In any case, I am glad that they do away with the streaming..my P2 girl is rather slow..I hope she will catch up when she is in P3..

For girls who are strong in their Chinese, higher chinese will be offered at P2 level..I think this is a good move. At least, it gives the girls more time to try out Higher Chinese. If they cannot make it, it is still not late for them to drop out at P4 or P5. By then, I believe their Chinese foundation will be sufficient for them to cope the PSLE Chinese exam.

                    Hi bebe,

Thank you for all your input.
I'm glad to hear that the school has done away with streaming...at P2, students are slightly more adjusted than P1.

Wow, offering Higher Chinese from P2 already ? For a school which is non SAP, this is a big move.

                    Thanks 🙂

Blessedmum, didn’t you get the letter? Think it was given out last week. The upgrade is postponed till Jan 2013 & finishes in June 2014. Moving to the former First Toa Payoh Sec School, currently occupied by St Nics Sec.
