      php:
Communication via email is a better method to get in touch with teachers. I tried a few times sending emails to my dd's FT and i got her responses within the same day. Maybe you should just try sending an email to the HOD instead....

Yes php, I did that right after I got the last response from the clerk, now I am waiting for his reply. I had emailed my dd's FT a couple of times before with regard to other stuff and you are right, I got responses within the day. This time round, I was hoping to get a direct answer from the HOD, instead of waiting for him to read his email and then reply me. Oh well...now I know better. Thanks for your advice.

I wouldn't have to resort to this if it's not cos of my dd's chi teacher not able to give my dd a confirmed answer.

Frankly, I was more frust with the admin's way of handling phone calls than getting a reply for my query. I think they should improve their services by having the time-tables of teachers on-hand or even a white board with info of teachers who are on-course or on leave. In this way, any callers, either by phone or walk-in would know whether the teacher is definitely around or not. At least, that was what my ex-school did.

Academically, PHPPS is doing better year after year... but in term of administration, i think they are lacking behind and there are plenty room for improvement. Nowadays, it is not an easy job for teachers any more. There are too many non-teaching related jobs they have to undertake. No doubt parents are more demanding nowadays, but i think we as parents need to appreciate the effort they put in in imparting knowledege and values to our kids. As an ex-teacher, i believe you will fully agree with me.

Agree. I appreciate all my girls' teachers in my own ways. It has nothing to do with their professionalism though. So far, I've only emailed twice to her FT and both times are not complains or demands, but purely academic.

I will teach my girls to the best of my knowledge to be understanding towards their teachers. I will do the \"extras\" that her teachers have no time to do because I understand. So far, I would say my dd was quite fortunate to have encountered mostly passionate and dedicated teachers in her two years of studying in PH.

            To all P3 parents,

My dd informed that her chi T told her this afternoon that last year the duration for SA1 Chi Pp1 was 1 h 20 mins and for SA2, it's 1 hour so it is also the same this year. There is no indication in the memo that there is a change in the test components, it is still 看图写话 (10marks) and 造句 (10 marks).

Can any P3 parent clarify? I am still awaiting Chinese HOD's reply.

If that's the case, I'll need to get my dd to think and write super fast. The class had already completed the last 看图写话 for the term and it was done at home. There were no practices in class to complete both components in 1 hour. I really wonder whether it could possibly be done at all. 😞

Based on the letter dated 23 Sept,

              EL Paper 1:
              P3/P4 50 mins
              P5 1hr 10 mins

              CL Paper 1:
              P3/P4 40 mins
              P5 50 mins
              P5 (Foundation) 30 mins
              P5 (Higher Chinese) 50 mins

Thanks Jennifer, my understanding is there is no 造句 in p3/4 paper 1, right? So it means for p2 SA2 chi pp1, the pupils are required to estimate and break down their time to complete compo in 40 mins and sentence making in 20mins. Uhmm...can u remember was it like this last year? The 20 mins reduction in time from SA1 came as a shock to me, no prior warning...

Ok, I am a hoarder 😉 ...I still have last year SA2 timetable. P2 CL paper 1 was 1 hr for both 看图写话 and 造句. Actually, P1 CL paper 1 was also 1 hr last year. I cannot tell for SA1 since mine was not in PH then yet. It was doable for my eat-potato girl, she managed. I am sure yours will be just fine.

Thanks a zillion, IJJ...I will start timing my dd tomorrow. Yes, p1 is 1 hour cos they were only tested on 造句 so in a way, 1 hour is quite sufficient but with 看图写话, I think the difficulty level lies in the planning and then constructing the flow of the story. My dd had the luxury of time for all the class practices. The duration for SA1 was just nice for her and I didn't expect tt there will be a difference in duration for SA2.

                      You are very welcome!

Oral going to start next week. Wishing all kids (and parents) who are having exams, that they will pass with flying colours. 😄

For all P3ers...just fyi, I sms FT, was told that retelling of story should limit to 3-5 mins. Must complete story to pass.

My son’s teacher is taking quite a long while to mark the last 造句 given. I’m waiting for it so that I can compile all of them and print them out for son to memorize. Quite a lot this time…since it’s SA2.
