This thread just smacks of overly protective tone of parents.
Sometimes I feel that Singapore should compel every parent to be a teacher for six months to one year - like how Thailand has a practice of monkhood for every male - to let them understand how schools, parents and kids in schools are like now.
My kid came home to tell me that her Science teacher stormed out of the classroom in one instance and in another, scolded them ‘stupid idiots’. I deduce that her class must have been really naughty to provoke the teacher to do or say things that she did.
Her music teacher calls them a ‘sickening class’ every week he steps in and makes them sit and stand repeatedly every lesson.
I deduce that they must have been really trying for the teacher.
The parents did not complain. But the kids wrote a petition to the principal, asking for a change of music teachers. When I knew that my kid went to give the letter, I scolded her big time and told her I would beat the daylight out of her if she ever complains against a teacher again.
No teacher comes into teaching with a desire to torture or vent frustration on kids. Whenever I read articles about parents defending their kids, I feel sick to the stomach. They would always give their point of view alone. How about the teacher? Not a human ah? A teacher, like any other normal human being, will not jump on the child the first time he commits a mistake. From what I know, teachers who exploded at a child usually had had enough from the same child.
I can go on and on, and I know the protective parent syndrome will still be strong in the air.
