      Naturally in SAP schools, the HCL standard is high lor, if not, why bother to be SAP right? 😉

      Augmum, my girl enjoys HCL lessons but not Chinese literature and I am very glad, so far, she is doing well for HCL. Same same, Chinese homework is one of the very time consuming one. I am still trying very hard to cultivate her interest in Chinese literature. 😞
      Is Chinese Lit a separate subject at your dd's school? Or is it part of HCL?

        Thanks Augmum for the info !

        Anyone know if it is difficult to transit from pri school MT to HMT (Chinese) in IP ? If my DS now gets , say around marks 60 to 69 range in pri school for MT Chinese, would it pose a challenge for him to handle HMT in an IP school ?

        Also, does IP school beef up those students who does MT (Chinese) in pri school, by giving them extra coaching to catch with their peers who originally has been doing HMT (Higher Chinese) ?

        Thanks in advance.

        hi kiasimum,
        u're welcome
        as for my gal's sch (DHS), there is no special or extra class for pupils who does not take HMT in their pri sch.
        though the pupil can approach the teacher for extra help or coaching....(they are very willing to help)

        not to frighten u, SAP IP HMT is tough
        their teachers' expectations are high and their grading is strict.

        although my gal's PSLE HMT got a distinction for it
        but over in DHS, her HMT grade is the one which is pulling her overall GPA down.
        and she often spends a substantial amt of time in doing HMT homework.... 😉
        frankly, i can see that she dun enjoy her HMT in DHS 😉 😛

        Oh dear, sounds really tough in DHS.. I don't think my younger son can pull through SAP IP HMT. DHS is the only IP school nearest East for next yr's admission.

        Looks like have to go thru the path of Victoria again, then.. either to Victoria IP or Temasek TA. Only if the 6 year IP pgm starts 1 year earlier. Sigh.

          For year 1 and 2, its part of HCL.
          For year 3 onwards, its seperate, optional.

            Thanks daisyt. Is Chinese Lit part of the syllabus for all SAP schools or only a few selected schools? I'm assuming that HCL in other schools (non-SAP) do not have the Chinese Lit component?

                Hi daisy,

                Curious to know what's covered in Chinese Lit, maybe you could provide some highlights here. My dd is also taking HCL but I have yet heard her mentioning anything about literature.

                Thanks.

                  Hi orchids, so far from my memory, got 四大名著 (different year different book, except 红楼梦) and tested, memorise 唐诗,宋词,弟子规 every week and tested.

                    hi daisyt
                    Chinese literature is not part of the HCL component in DHS at least NOT for YR1(din hear my gal mention anything abt it)
                    But they do have extra reading bks like 西游记, 中国历史 which are non-exam, but tested and would be reflected in their report bks as told.

                    She dislikes remembering those emperors’ names and dynasties. 😉

                    Yes, very time-consuming doing HCL HW, which includes essays writing, newspaper’s article, sometimes journal.

                    Btw, DHS GPA grading system differs slightly fr RV
                    A+ -> GPA 4.0 for 80 and above
                    A -> GPA of 3.6 for 70 and above
                    B -> GPA of 2.8 for 60 and above ,

                    so when comes to getting a “B” GPA not proportionally decrease.
                    That’s y I mentioned that her HCL is pulling her overall GPA down.
                    she dislikes HCl probaby becos DHS marking system is very strict, hard to score,
                    even non of the students' model essays which the teachers praised could obtain a A+ 😉

                      Wow, the standard of HCL at DHS is really high. I wonder if it's that tough at HCI/NYGH too.
                      jtoh,.....yes their std is high....
                      most of those PSLE pupils who are scoring a A* for CL,
                      when comes to DHS, ended up getting a \"B\" for HCL

                        I see. I'm wondering if the standard's so high in other SAP schools too. My friend's dd in Nanyang who according to her mother is weak in Chinese, only did CL in primary school and scored A, says she's doing fine in HCL in Nanyang.
