It's true! My mum is always stressed by the maid and often getting frustrated with her. But in the past, she had some good ones too. It depends - some are good, some not so good, some a big nightmare! You never know... Like buying 4D!

I never had a maid when I grew up and as a SAHM for the past 11 years with 3 kids, never had one till 3 weeks ago....just delivered my 4th kid, 3rd is 18th months so forced to get a maid from hubby and my own mother cuz if not she will nag at me till she gives me a heart attack but I totally agree that though tiring, I'd rather not have a maid cuz now I am getting paranoid (in my other post about maid issues). Thinking of letting her go than I will have peace of mind.
Hubby is working in KL and I am alone with 4 kids and have to mind a maid now.
I grew up with maid in the house all along. I was quite used to it when I was young. But now that I'm married with my own house and family, I feel it's different. I just don't like having a miad in the house. My colleague's daughter is closer to her maid than her or the dad and sticks to her maid like glue. It's so sad! I never want that to happen. So if it mean harder work for hubby and me with no maid, I still think we just have to do it. Hubby's more ok with getting a maid, but that is also because I'm the one who will have to keep an eye on her! He works longer hours and is sometimes overseas for his job. I'm still trying to psycho him, and convince him that even when no.2 comes, we don't have to get maid... -

Agree! Now sometimes when our floor is dusty or laundry is piling up when both hubby and I are too busy, just have to close 1 eye... If no time or energy, I just make sure my boy's room is clean.If the maid can really help, then of course it is great !!! But imagine if she is giving trouble instead, you'll be having 5 kids instead.
Without a maid, do not expect the house to be spotless.
My friend who has no maid said she used to clean the floors once in 2 days. Then too busy with baby and work, so clean less often. So they just wore bedroom slippers around the house instead, hahaha. -

I grew up having maids, but they were not so garang like now.
My hubby was ok getting a maid, but that’s bcos he doesn’t have to keep an eye on her, nor teach her how to do work. After the last one, I told him I’ve enough of teaching them to do work and to avoid being in the newspapers for maid abuse, please send this one back to the agency !!! :x They drive you up the wall until you just want to give them 2 tight slaps. -

I so agree with you! I've sent my ex-maid packing and back to indon. I was so tired of her attitude, giving me faces and raised her voice at me. Disrespectful and not helping around the house, what's the use of having a maid. After she left I checked around the house, saw so many walls got dents and chipped, my iron broken, table chipped, bowl lost, etc.. :x I have no maid right now, I am a SAHM, 2 kids (2.5yrs & 9mths) for the past 3 years and for once, I feel so in PEACE without a maid. Now my hubby got me another maid (coming in Oct), giving me chills. I don't know what to expect. So paranoid about having a maid again!!!Hi baglady,

I know how you feel about rude maids. My mum had a maid who even made many holes in the wok :x and she had to throw it away. That maid is one of the worst ! Told her not to eat in the room but she still kept bread in the room, leaving behind crumps. After sending her off, had to spray Baygon to kill the RED ants :x :x -
Wish I could do without a maid… but for now have no choice. Hubby and I will fight over household chores and since I am a SAHM, it means that I will be THE maid. Also with 2 kids, I HOPE that a maid will help enable me to spend more time with the kids…
So I salute all moms who have managed without a maid and really look forward to the day when I can be free from full-time maids! -

In the meantime, enjoy the time spent with the kids...leave the non value-added work to the maid. -
My friend’s new maid spent 3 wks doing hardly anything except cry. She was also very rude and refused to work. My friend was fed up and sent her back to the agency. Later the maid ran away from the agency! What a nightmare!! I haven’t got any update yet so I don’t know if they found her.
I heard so many horror stories about maids from friends, my mum, my relatives… One of the worse was this maid who was selling herself at geylang. She was supposed to look after the employer’s young daughter so you know what she did? She brought the little girl along!!! The employer thought she was such a good maid. Always so nice and hardworking in front of them. They found out only because she got caught when there was police raid. This is true story, my mum’s friend’s maid!! Scary right?
Of course not all maids are bad. There are many good ones also and in fact I’m still in touch with my parents’ former maid. She worked for us since I was in kindergarten and worked for many years. She left to australia and got married. But she kept in touch, always send us christmas cards, birthday card etc. She was a great cook too. But from what I hear, nowadays quite hard to find such good help anymore. -
Mum had a friend who had an Indon maid who slept with an old man in the same estate. They stay in a penthouse…night time the couple will lock up main door and go upstairs to sleep. The maid opened the window, climbed out of the window downstairs and have a good time with the old man downstairs EVERY NIGHT !!!
The couple didn’t know anything. Sent the maid off for some other reason. Then the old man asked the new maid where the earlier maid went to. Mum’s friend then found out about the nightly escapades. -

To me, best solution is part time cleaner so I'm looking for one now. Just got a contact from someone in this forum so wish me luck!
