What is lowest PSLE aggregate you can score with 4A*?

I agree that the aggregate is more important than the A's. My Daughter got 3A's and A* for MT and her score was 253. Her friend got the reverse, 3A* and an A for MT and her score was 255.

This is definately correct. The range for A is rather wide and it is impt to meet the highend of A in order to get a good T-score.

I know a boy who has a grade profile of 2 A* 2A with a T-score of 268.


He was a former classmate of my son. The boy is now in his fifth year at HCI.

Came across a report that about 10% of the student population are \"foreigners\", PR...

These students are so good in CL and MA that getting 100 is chicken. For MA they are ahead of local students by at least 1 year in terms of coverage and yet they usually join a class that is younger than them by 1 year - so that they can catch up in EL. No need to comment about CL.

With additional foreign students scoring A* (on top of our own local A*), we can guess what will happen to the \"mean\" and our T-score if we don't do well in CL or MA. I guess that was why the proposal to give less weightage to CL was made. Unfortunately many don't understand the good intention and made lots of noise.

they should learn to face the competition rather than we changing the rules to help us score, the world out there is a real world

You are absolutely correct that the constant will vary with the range. 0.712 is applicable for scores of A & A*. The constant will be lower for scores in the B & C range.

Just to share how a more accurate constant can be estimated for each subject.


Lets say the mean = 71 marks
The constant for a score of 71 (mean) = 50/71 = 0.704
The constant for marks less than 71 will be less than 0.704, (the lesser the mark, the smaller will be the constant)
The constant for marks more than 71 will be more than 0.704, (the higher the mark, the bigger will be the constant). However, from my observation, the highest constant is about 0.72 (dependent on the SD - the smaller the SD the greater will be the increase)

Therefore, by estimating the mean score of each paper, we can roughly estimate the constant to use to get the T-score.

If the paper is easy, the constant at the mean will be smaller but will increase more because of the smaller SD - the upper limit is about 0.712.

If the paper is difficult, the constant at the mean will be bigger but will increase less because of the bigger SD - the upper limit is about 0.72.

They were the few GEP students that just didn't successfully get any DSA offers. And yes, my friend said the parents were very sad on the results day. ;(

Always getting selected to represent her school in various competitions which she wouldn't have the opportunity to if she had gone to the top schools.

So far the kids feel the papers easy. If most students feel easy thru out, what is the implication of the highes T-score this year? Not more than 280 ? And a lot of tie ?

Sure a high mean pulls down one’s T-score but it usually means a low SD which pulls up the T-score. I agree there will be a lot of ties but when it comes to the highest, i don’t see why does anyone have to be so overly concerned. It won’t be affected right?
